FORMER NSW Origin prop Ryan O’Hara has caused outrage by unloading a racially charged, expletive-riddled Twitter tirade against UK Super League heavyweight Marwan Koukash.
The former Raiders and Tigers front-rower took to Koukash’s Twitter feed in response to the billionaire Salford owner’s tweet “I have had enough” last Thursday, after the Red Devils’ embarrassing 52-6 loss to St. Helens.
Taking aim at ex-Welsh dual international Iestyn Harris, who was installed as Salford’s coach last April, O’Hara tweeted Koukash: “Told you Harris is a fat lying s… coach f…tard. Maybe you should send him to work with your buddies at ISIS”.
Koukash is the ultimate rags to riches story, a Palestinian refugee turned self-made billionaire who has tipped $5 million of his own money into the struggling Red Devils since buying the club two years ago.
Two days later O’Hara took aim again at Harris, tweeting directly to Koukash: “Hey Marvin (sic), have you heard of that old saying that goes something like, Harris is a fat s … who can’t coach so f … him off.”
On Monday Koukash’s daughter Layla called out O’Hara, labelling him “prejudiced and narrow-minded,” before warning “if only you knew how elementary it would be to have someone with those assumptions prosecuted”.
Thirty-four year-old O’Hara, who played a single Origin match for NSW in 2004 then responded to Koukash with “Prosecuted? Does that mean I get paid to have sex?”
O’Hara is one of four former NRL players still owed money from the ill-fated Celtic Crusaders franchise which folded in 2011, where Harris took them to the wooden spoon in his first year as head coach and the club’s final season in the competition.
O’Hara, former Manly-premiership winner Mark Bryant, ex-Bulldogs, Rabbitohs, Eels, Dragons and Sharks journeyman Adam Peek and former Raiders and Tigers utility Lincoln Withers claim to be owed up to 50,000 pounds each by the defunct Welsh franchise in unpaid wages and pension money.
Despite his frustrations with Salford’s start to the season, Koukash is sticking with coach Harris but is bringing in current Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens in an advisory role.
“A friend of mine (Sheens) will be visiting soon, to look around the club and give me his opinion,” Koukash told the BBC.
“I’m not the most experienced person in rugby league — I’ve only been in the sport for three years — and sometimes I need extra help.
“That friend is Tim Sheens, who will visit me for three weeks and advise me on various bits and pieces and help put some systems and structures into the club.”
The billionaire also tweeted he believes his side’s fortunes will turn and threw his support behind the playing group.
Koukash has been linked to several NRL clubs including the Broncos and the Knights.
Only last week the businessman said he would consider bankrolling a team in Queensland and that the Titans could be on his radar if the NRL agreed to move them closer to Brisbane.
