Saints steal another good forward from us!!

I heard this happening last weeek, but it has now been confirmed that the St Geordge Dragons have signed David Gower for next season…...and who can blame the good bloke, when not given a decent chance by Sheens in First Grade.

Seriously , what does a player have to do in Reserve grade to be given a go by a Sheens coached team.....I guess winning the best player of the 2009 NSW Cup season and being the MOM of the NSW vs Queensland residents match is not enough.....another word working Not injury prone good value forward goes.....but don't worry folkes, we still have Jason Cayless

Not stealing when they are unwanted Alad.

David will be completely focused on the job at hand this season though

Good on him. He's a great player, and if Wests can't find a place for him then I hope he gets a start for St George (perhaps he's a replacement for Saffy - isn't he off to Melbourne union?)

Always rated him above Dwyer, better than Flanagan. Maybe Fitzhenry or Skandalis this weekend.

Than again we kept an underperforming Halatau for years after offering Lewis Brown nothing and that worked out really well for us so I look forward to watching this. I eagerly await our buying back the farm policy continuing. Maybe get McDonnell back

We have alot better in front of him… just because u and half the forum love a player u cant play 40 players in a team

Gotta agree with you there Troy. There's 8 spots available for 8 running forwards and when they're all fit, 9 players to cover those positions. Galloway, Gibbs, Moors, Fifita, Ellis, Heighington, Fulton, Dwyer and Flanagan. Is Gower better than any of those guys?

The last two he is for mine and I rate he, Moors and Fifita about on level for differing reasons as each have different strengths and weaknesses

I've never seen him play so i can't comment but whenever a quality player leaves the club there's always going to be some sort of finger pointing. I just think some people are quick to lambaste Sheens for anything he does whether he's right or wrong.

it doesnt matter if he is on par or not… we cant keep everyone one... u think the club is going to keep
u think he is the first player that we are going to loose in the next 12 mths... more to come.. the club has some juniors that will be great buys.. but we also have plenty of those positions..

and when credit is due, litteraly only a HANDFUL of players that have left have gone onto bigger and better things..

People screamed when Mighty Mouse left... where is he now?

My problem lays only partly with Sheens but I have discussed that elsewhere.

My bigger problem is with the terrible decision to value Jersey Flegg above Reserve Grade. It means clubs have to allocate positions in a top squad to young kids, the majority of whom, are still a few years off consideration for NRL and pay them accordingly.

Anyway. Best of luck to David Gower and I hope he makes every post a winner.

I would rate the coaching staff's opinions over anyone on this forum (apart from mine of course). If they don't rate the bloke, I can live with that

It's a shame to lose Gower, he is one guy who gives his all every week for Balmain, and during times of injury in the WT forwards, I think he definitely should have been given a go. It's a shame the club cannot keep everyone, and there will always be some players who go to other clubs and do get a go. I daresay Gower will be the first of 3 or 4 lower grade players to move to other clubs at the end of the year, even if the likes of Fitzy, Skando and Cayless are released/retire.

I would imagine the likes of Mataka, Shirnack(s), Akeripa would be the ones looking. They could potentially be on the radar for Melbourne after their fire sale

Look smeg, i know you r a gower fan and i agree he should of been given a go when we have had injuries!!! But to say he is better than dwyer i think is a bit unfair. Dwyer is a gun and will only improve in time if you have watched his games and the hard metres he makes for us… please watch the offloads, tackles, kick chase.... i dont need to say anymore
I am worried about the moops he needs more game time leading to the semis...
Sad to see gower go but i think he is to slender for first grade committed and dedicated but to slender.

This is great news. He wasnt getting the go he deserved by Sheens so im happy for him. Every young guy should get a chance when they've earned it like David has and if we arnt going to give it to him, then he has no choice but to look elsewhere. I hope he has a long NRL career.
