Sam Burgess tackle downgraded to a grade one

Well done NRL :rage: , after talking tough and resetting all the precedents, you have just set the standard for a grade one high tackle.

Moylan is out with concussion this week but Sam Burgess can play. Is a grade 3 now when you kill someone?

All I can do is shake my head

Maloney got banned for a week for waving his leg near another player. It is dirty play but even if the trip was successful its not as bad as knocking someone out with a swinging arm.

The inconsistency is so frustrating.

Should never have been downgraded. He contacted the head and Moylan wen't limp - he was KO'd, albeit briefly.

Minimum 2 weeks

A certain ex Penrith and Dragons player who used to date a well known surfer thinks it is priceless .....

Such an appalling decision. So wrong. What does this bloke have to do to get a significant penalty?

Not play for Souffs Rorters or Donkeys

Seriously - did anyone really think he was going to get a real penalty?

He plays for the "pride of the league" - how dare anyone suggest such a thing to blacken their "GOOD" name.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

You're right ... but what will anybody do about it?
The answer is ... nothing.
I hope Cronulla have the balls to have a go at them.

They won't ck - they have too much dirty washing themselves, they may open a can of worms.

Its fun to joke about certain teams getting "special treatment" but usually you can rationalize the outcome.

This one is different. I cant see how he didn't get a holiday. The replay is fairly damning and the guy has a track record. The result for Moylan is a stint on the sidelines.

This might be a silly question but if he had carry over points are they now gone? so he goes into finals with a clean slate?

Didn't we have someone suspended for a "high shot" during this season which was pretty inocuous? Maybe Cheeks or someone?

So they have told Burgess that he is innocent of a high shot, but still fined him for it?

Sorry but if they deem it fineworthy, then doesn't that imply that they thought he was guilty???

I'm confused about this, but on the plus side we would very much like cronulla to lose this weekend.....

@OzLuke its also like how Maloney would usually get fined for his regular tripping offences , this time it’s repeated enough to be a suspension . A dirty forward for Souths with a proven track record makes a very ‘clumsy’ tackle and knocks a guy into next week... although on replay I felt he simply messed up his timing, and a fullback very much in the mould of Slater makes elbow/shoulder to head contact in a battle with a 2RF for the ball in a game which was on the line but nonetheless illegal contact made...

The problem now as you can see is they set a precedent and all of a sudden that speech from the RLPA and Greendirge himself about making really effortless, clumsy & straight grub like “late shots, shoulder chargers & high tackles” easily reprimanded is all talk , gutless lies. We’ve seen a player sin binned for both incidents and and also several players this season penalised/even reported (AND suspended) for extremely innocuous and obviously not deliberate STRONG tackles, I.e brooks on Barnett .

The Kikau incident a week-odd before Matt Dufty makes a similar attempted tackle to Ponga, but on Brent Naden in the corner and avoids contacting his head, is still considered a sin bin despite it, in my opinion being a desperation attempted tackle and not exactly the type we, as fans wanted to have rubbed out .

So, Dufty was neither suspended or fined yet Ponga is sin binned, reported and then NOT EVEN cited by match review committee despite making what I’d call highly dangerous or borderline negligent contact with a player’s head... I don’t even think S. Burgess’ was as bad this time around but given his history it’s just absurd hasn’t resulted in a week off!!!

You are exactly right....but they've essentially told him that he's only a little bit guilty so have a fine. It's either guilty or not.

Have we ever had an NRL boss who talked so tough and staunch, and been such a squid? He is the embarrassment to the game
