This is really starting to bug me… Something needs to be done to fix the situation with eligibility. What really topped it off was during the Ch 9 coverage of Origin, they listed Inglis' junior club as Bowraville, NSW. Even as a New South Welshman, I don't think Tamou should be a Blue.

I don't think something as simple as where you were born determines your team. Two of my mates were born in QLD and moved to NSW before they were 1 (parents were up there for work). They identify themselves as NSW fans through and through.

Maybe the junior rep footy policy needs to be policed and scrutinised better?

Maybe more incentive to remain a Kiwi (although I find this pretty hollow).. An Auckland V The Rest series?

Meh they might as well make a new criteria for overseas players… something like "if you played in Australia before your 18th birthday for either a school, CRL, QRL or NSWRL you may nominate for the state of the location of the club in addition to playing for your country of birth."

Rules for Origin should be simple.

1\. Where were you born?
2\. Where did you play your first game of football?
3\. Where did you first go to primary school?
4\. Where did you first go to high school?
5\. Where did you play your first game of senior football (at 16 or over)?

If either NSW or Queensland is the answer to 3 of these questions, you play for them.
If neither NSW or Queensland is the answer to at least 3 of these questions, you are ineligible to play origin.

ALSO, make origin and international elligibility separate. Guys like Hunt and Foran who grew up in Australia but were born abroad should be allowed to play origin, but should not be forced to play for Australia as well. Get rid of residency eligibility or make it longer (10 years).

It's pretty much what it's going to have to come to.

What happens if you're a RAAF kid who is born in QLD, moves to NSW and starts primary school here, moves back to QLD and starts playing Rugby League and starts high school there, moves back to NSW and then gets picked for rep teams down here. What determines where you play there?

You have to be born in Australia to play origin though I reckon. Kiwi's playing origin is a farce (i.e. Kasiano, Tamou, Thorn, Carroll.)

You can blame all of the older players and commentators who have their little circle jerk about Origin being the pinnacle.

I love Origin but it has gotten to the point where so much money and resources has been slung at it since the mid 90's that it has all but destroyed the credibility of International football.

Theres a rumour going around that the wheels are in motion for a change in rules so players are able to play state of origin yet still represent a country other than Australia

Then they should change the name of the game to "Blues vs Maroons", not State of **Origin**. Hope that doesn't happen

Bloody stupid, they are going to kill the concept of SOO if they continue doing this, it's a joke and appears only getting worse. Both sides should knock it off it sort it out.

Make it where your born and that's it.
If you are born in NSW and move to QLD the next day and never spend another second in NSW then too bad you are still a New South Welshman.

depends what type of internationals. Guys like Hayne and Jennings who were born in NSW should be allowed to play, even guys who move over at a very young age like Hunt and Foran. If they open it up to anyone and everyone like Burgess and Marshall it would kill any credibility the concept has.

Welcome Sam… Thanks Dave!

Gee you NSW bloke have a cry over everything :bawling

You get your own referees (the most important thing) every game and you still all have a sook
:bawling
Its only fair , if you get the referees we get the pick of the players we want

New Zealand arent exactly clean skins in this regard… Players like Andrew Lomu, Fui Fui Moi Moi, Josh Hoffman, Frank Pritchard & Nathan Fein aren't from New Zealand!

Weren't the Cayless boys born in Australia too?

To be honest, I don't even think he's origin material yet, he doesn't seem fit enough for origin. If I was a qld selector & had to pick a 19 man squad, he wouldn't be there.

Has anyone heard it from the horses mouth that he wants to play for the Cane Toads, the NZ article states that he signed a letter of intent to play for NZ so there may be legal grounds preventing him playing for the Maroons.
Technically Mal Meninga isn't a Queenslander as his mother is Scottish and his father is a 'South Sea Islander', not sure what his origins were and now he wants yet another foreign born player to represent Qld, fair dinkum the qualifications need to be streamlined ASAP before the game suffers.
P.S. I'm not happy about the Blues picking foreign born players like Uate and Tamou either.
