Sensible solutions? - With conditions

1 WT defensive line speed is the worst in NRL- we move forward three steps, then stop- the good teams sprint up and hit hard. And they do it relentlessly.

2 win the ruck- we let the opposition play the ball way too quickly. Our ineffectiveness in this area contributes to problem number 1 and visa versa.

3 Stop the offloads. Again - if we have issues in 1 & 2, offloads against us will be high.

If I was Sheens, Id be pushing the line, "If we fix our defence, the attack will come."

The "win the ruck" comment made me realize how much we miss Bryces presence in the middle. He was also good for that dirty hit up from our own 20\. Now we have 3 backs rucking it out.
After all the talk of 2 young props, the fact that Sheens played 2 backs on the bench when Moors and Schirnack Could have played a role vs probably the biggest pack in the comp.
Moltzen has been ordinary in 2 positions now

For the first time in 9 years, I am questioning Sheens. I understand he has all the experience, but I think he panicked with his selection of Miller. 3 games into the season and we are changing halfbacks. It now feels like he is second guessing himself and the initial selection of Moltzen at halfback.

The fact of matter is that Miller is not yet first grade standard and he struggled last night. Admittedly, he did not have Farah to guide him last night, but from what I have seen when he has played first grade and NYC, he is the next John Morris. Solid in defence, first to dive on a loose ball, but very predictable in attack.

Moltzen should have remained in the 7, moved Ryan to fullback and find some kid to play on the wing.

If Billy Slater got injured, you would not see Bellamy moving Cronk to fullback.

**Set Defensive Structure** - every 5 minutes as our line is set it is different? To be able to move as a unit in defence and increase our line-speed, we need to maintain a structured defensive line. With Player A and Player B always defending next to each other they are able to intepret what each other is doing. With a Structured Defence, If Player B goes up and shifts and shuffles to his right, Player A follows or compensates. The ability to understand your mate allows the players to concentrate in defence and become more effective. At the moment with the line constantly changing, Player B moves up, shuffles to the right and Player A holds his line and continues to mark up on his man. This is our Number 1 problem at present!

**Play The Balls** - Opposition Defenses are out wrestling us. The Tigers have a pattern to try and get there 10 meters by using 'leg-drive'. The opposition has worked this out and are allowing us to do so, and in turn are holding us up longer and wrestling us to the deck. This is slowing down the play the ball. Our forwards need to change this method and look to gain 8 meters, drop down in the tackle and get up for a quicker play the ball. This will in turn allow greater 'direct' runs from dummy half to connect with a fast moving forward as the defense is somewhat flat-footed. Playing direct also sucks in defenders and only once we control the meters in the middle should we look to go sideways.

Firstly Gary I don't think that Sheens had a choice last night He needed a halfback that was going to lead the team around the field and that could give Benji some room to do what Benji can do

Secondly If Billy Slater got injured he would probably move Widdup to fullback and leave Cronk at half back Trying to compare Cronk to Moltzen is like trying to compare me to Tiger Woods :laughing:

I haven't coached at any sort of level so I'm not gonna have a go at who should be dropped or tactics and the like. To me Matt Elliot spoke alot of sense tonight. There are too many good players here so the problem is communication and attitude I think. We look like we have never played with eachother before. There is something going wrong there. I'm not promoting the disharmony card either. But something is defiantley amiss anoungst our group of players and the sooner they find it and bury it the better.

I think Matt Elliot is spot on, they look like they've never played together. It reminds of of many games between 2007-2009, overall, the side is clueless as to what to do, especially with defence.

1\. At least three forwards on the bench;
2\. Bell MUST start and play at least 40 mins;
3\. Fulton and Heighington shouldn't be on the paddock at the same time;
4\. Blair on the right, Ellis on the left;
5\. Moltzen back to 7, Humble back to 1 and give him license to chime in the line. He did it against Cronulla, can't figure out why he was quiet against the Sea Bogans and Dragons.

He probably did it against the Sharks CB because he wasn't under instructions to do otherwise

Good thoughts Watto, but can we do it :brick:

I don't know if its a good sensible solution but for the life of me I cant work out what goes through Tim's head sometimes.

We knew beforehand that the Raiders have got a pretty big, strong and mobile pack so he again picks two rookie props and then has a completely wasted bench spot in Sean Meaney.

Surely to god another forward like Moors would have been a better option?

Surely having Bell start ahead of Groat would have been a more sensible option?

The side lacks energy and enthusiasm, is Sheens too clinical in his preparation?

Why is it that season after season our forwards are out muscled and smashed?

As others have said we have the world of respect for Chris Heighnington but he is just not adding to the mix any more, needs to start from the bench.

What's going on with Blake Ayshford?

Moltzen, geez I just don't know what to do there.

I want to see our forwards show some aggression, a bit like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC7uzSKnVRA I hate the Bulldogs but look at their attitude!
