Sheens Doesn't Want a Traditional Halfback

Our captain wants a halfback:

"It's a little different at the Tigers, so it was a change to play with Mitchell Pearce for City," Farah said.

"With that combination I knew my job and stuck to it.

"With respect to the guys who've played at the Tigers, we haven't had a genuine halfback for a while. We've chopped and changed and sometimes I've played first receiver in games."

"Sticky (Stuart) was really honest and told me what I needed to do."

This is all well and good that Robbie obviously thinks we lack a genuine halfback, but the more important question is why doesn't Sheens think we need one? We won a premiership last time we had one, and we got close two years straight with Lui there.

It's blatantly obvious that when Miller has been given a run in first grade, he's not able to call over Marshall or Farah and utilise his kicking game, and basically sits on the fringes defending. Tom Humble can actually play at half and has been closed down to allow Marshall to play from first receiver. I don't understand what Sheens' obsession is with trying to turn one of the most dynamic pivots in the game into a halfback. It's killing his running game and his creativity.

I'm guessing Sheens thought he had one with Lui The club really didn't have time or money to purchase another quality half CB

I don't know what the issue with Miller is though My only thought is maybe Sheens is concerned that Miller will struggle to play out a full season in top grade and might bring him through from Round 12 or 13 or maybe post Origin

Sheens knows his players better than I do , but I just can't think of any logical reasons why he won't play Miller at half

How ridiculous - Sheens doesn't want…..... If they grew on trees I'm sure he would have simply plucked one.

I think we will see some tinkering in the halves still over the next month. If I was coach, I certainly would be trying a few combos out.

Humble - I thought he was ok at 7 and should have had a few more games there. Wouldn't mind seeing him get another go.
Miller - Big unknown still. Wouldn't mind seeing him given a go to answer some of those questions.
Lawrence - I just don't see it. Out of form atm, not a good time to try him at 6\. I hope I don't see it ever again.
Sironen - Got a feeling he is right in the mix after some games under his belt and we might see him in FG in a couple of months.
Moltzen - I'd be putting him back to 7 this week. Experienced, reliable in defense, good passing game and blistering acceleration. They trained this way all pre season so there must be something there to be unleashed. Ryan or even Lawrence to fullback.

We have a few genuine alternatives at our disposal Tooth, it's the way Sheens has utilised them. Apparently Humble was immense in the 7 for BRET on the weekend, perhaps as he was allowed to play his natural game?

I am with you Tooth. I think Sheens is itching to bring young Sirro into play, but he won't do it against a massive Warriors pack.

Maybe over the next few weeks considering by all report he performed well in State Cup.

I'm actuall not going to bag sheens too much on this YET

We had rob lui who was a brilliant half and complimented benji beautifully. We got rid of him in October/November, there aren't exactly a bunch of halfbacks sitting around waiting to be signed during this time.

Don't know what the go is with miller, apparently he was good enough to play first grade at the start of last year but not this year.

Millers problem is simple… He is not consistent week in week out... If he can't be consistent in U20 what chance can he be consistent in NRL

There were actually 2 halfbacks at the time who were only contracted till the end of this yr, namely Luke Walsh and Peter Wallace. One of those 2 would have been perfect. If we could have picked one of them to up we'd have been covered for the next couple of yrs

Sheens must have one of the young guys in mind for next year - but he sure does have a funny way of building their confidence!
He played Miller in firsts last year and dumped him after he went ok and then did the same this year.
Now we have had Miller , Humble , Moltzen and Marshall start there (as well as Farah playing the role) in this season so far.
Pretty hard to get a combination going there.
We have also had 2 different five eights , three different fullbacks and countless combinations of centres and wingers.
No wonder they look disjointed.

They dont, clearly dont know a thing about footy…they just see the number on the jumper

Yeah too right, it takes a natural intuition, a highly developed understanding and the willingness to be dismissive of anything other than one's own highly tuned opinion to understand Footy. I don't look at the numbers on the jumper myself, I tend to look at the numbers in the posters profile. Very telling that, very telling
