I know the league world is on its collective knees for Sonny. I mean he has been good this year but there are half a dozen players who will decide tonight's GF before he will IMO. Keep your eyes on the Manly centres and halves as well as bothe teams wingers and back rows and the full backs. Sonny is good but let's not forget there are some terrific players out there tonight who are better. Personally can not wait.

If he played for us you wouldn't be saying that.

He is marketable. So they will push it.

Yep, no doubt he has been good thus year but F F sakes he and the burgess boys and their momma aren't the only people playing rugby league.

Everyone in the media forgets about the workers grinding out the hard yards and doing the dirty work that needs doing.

I reckon manly get home tonight because they do that stuff better

Wests Tigers have been through all of this before with Benji. It will be relatively fleeting..

And it worked.

Specially for sponsorship. We are one of the highest $$$$ generated in sponsorship.

Anyone who doesn't try and push a big name like him are mad.

The only ones who don't like it is the opposition fans.

You would get sick of it whether he played for us or not IMO. As someone said, we have pretty much been through it with Benji to the point where you wouldn't even know who else is in the team. Just media driven bulldang. If the Roosters even get remotely close to winning today Sonny will win the Churchill Medal, they probably have his name engraved on it already.

With the boss of Channel Nine standing on the sidelines celebrating the Roosters' win last week the GF coverage on 9 will be Sonny Bill saturation overload.

I just wonder if they will do the whole "getting inside his head" thing that they sickeningly pushed ahead with in his return game in round 1\. Get the vomit bags ready

I don't know how was forgiven so easily.
That and the fact he isnt even sure if he wants to continue in NRL next year…

These are characteristics we shouldn't be promoting.
I would much rather hear about the guys who have done it tough and are living their dream player NRL. Whether they are high quality players or not.
The story this morning about Etu Nabuli from the Windsor Wolves was fantastic.

Excellent post Sabre. RL was built on hard-working blokes on the field and behind the scenes not megastars who think that they are above the game and are just whoring themselves out in the hope of snaring a premiership or a Rugby Union World Cup to cross off their to-do list. And it ain't just SBW who is guilty of this sort of crap I know.

I hated it earlier in the season and got used to it as time went on.

The lack of involvement in Grand Final week has been utterly atrocious though. Skipping events and being curt or dismissive of the press. You don't have to like the people asking the questions but you should be a professional and get on with it.

Superbowl week exposure to the media should be the codes goal. There is a lesson on how to get maximum coverage. It also dispels the crap about poor kids who are shy or lacking experience getting shut away from the media. The NFL has the same base and does it a million times better

This Grand Final week, while noble in it's aspiration, shows how far the code has to go

In the NRL's defence though Smeg, American sports seem to be more about the show being put on than actually winning or losing the biggest game of the year. If we were in their shoes it would be pretty annoying having to answer meaningless questions from knobsmokers such as James Hooper or Weidler when you are 100 percent focused on getting the job done.

The NRL needs to realise though that the more exposure our showcase game gets the better, ours are mostly winter sports competing against each other for the almighty dollar.

Id rather the focus be on him than Lady Burgess

You've been gunning for Mrs Burgess for bloody weeks now, GNR - what happened? Did she turn you down or something?

On SBW, yes all the hoopla surrounding him is quite sickening, but he has played awesome this season, he has a huge presence on and off the field and is highly marketable. Add to that, what he has done to help change the Roosters' culture from a bunch of 'good time' boys to a singularly focused football team, then he probably deserves all the accolades he's getting at the moment.

I understand that.

But IMO you get those knobsmokers because they are the grubs who like to trawl gossip and don't have an affinity for the game.

You create better access and demand higher standards and you end up with more guys like Mascord that genuinely love the game. They can call a spade a spade when it requires it but do not go hunting for tabloid style gossip.

The protectionist bs from RL has helped create the problem

Agree with you 100 percent but I just think the Aussie culture is such that the main interest is in the actual game itself whereas the Yanks will crap on about a wooden spoon clash like it is the Superbowl. Paralysis by analysis or whatever they call it. The Yanks love a toss-fest before a big event.

But yeah, the promotion of a Grand Final is a huge chance to attract new fans to the game.
