Some innovative ideas you'd like to see Madge trial

I see many people suggest some good (and some not so good ideas ) about players trialling in other positions on the Forum

Here is your chance , blast away , what suggestions do you have for Madge

For me I have two , I'd like Madge to tell MCK he either cracks it in the centres or see you later

Secondly , and I asked my mate from the Jets his thoughts as well , using Tom Mikaele as an impact back rower in attack , similar to the way Jesse Sue was used from time to time hitting an edge and then moved back to the ruck in defence and switch with Elijah Taylor

He is surprisingly quick on his feet for his size and with his size he could terrorize some halves late in halves if isolated 1 on 1

In the 2nd row we have Lawrence, Matterson, Garner, MCK, McQeen, Rochow, ET. and very little depth in the centres,
I agree that MCK is athletic enough to play in the centres and has some experience there.

Russell Packer to be used from the bench only. Told to make an impact when he comes on.

Good idea.

Twal & Matulino to start….

Packer, Mikaele - impact bench props.

Our starting props - who ever is good enough - aim to make to 100+ .metres to hold their positions, and still make dominant tackles.

Thats exactly as i see it.

Twal can handle starting duties, Packer can provide the impact.

Fullbacks as Fullbacks Wingers as Wingers Centres as Centres Halves as Halves Back rowers as backrowers Props as Props and lastly hookers all round..

Main innovating idea that I’d like to see innovated, is to win games and make the Semis

Glad you brought that up - no one else would have thought of that. Einstein of the NRL.

MCK has played both positions and shouldn't be considered as a starting back rower in all reality

Mikaele has played some back row previously …...

If it works we get depth in positions and areas of the game we lack in ......... win win

Twal hasn't got the mongrel yet to start imo.

Twal is not going to intimidate the opposition that's for sure,

Packer and Mats for mine.

Twal and Musgrave to follow.

Totally agree with this 100%
Packer was killing it off the bench for the dragons

I guess that means Sheens will never be back

A single captain
Repeat sets
Finals victory
Forwards taking hit ups before the third tackle
No hooker on the bench
Big forwards on the bench
Forwards who do more than tackle

Nothing innovative really

(1) Halfback to play both sides of the field and 5/8 to pop up everywhere (this isn't new, but nowadays halves play is waaay to rigid).
(2) When receiving a penalty 5 metres from the opposition tryline don't just go to ground and take the tackle. Try a backline move immediately.
(3) Keep the ball alive is the key….with timed passing and key offloads. More about this below...but mostly:
(4) Must throw the ball around on the 4th and 5th tackles. Being that we have to kick on the 6th, the team needs to realize that they cannot just go to ground on the last few tackles of the set. It's throwing the ball and a set away! (unless we are stuffed for territory)
(4) Run-arounds. Do it.

We need hard and free running players together with some big boppers and the creative spine. Duh.
But other than those guys, mixing skill sets is where it's at. It wreaks havoc.
So, we need to foster creative centres/2nd rowers.

We **must** avoid having too many "runners" in these positions that are devoid of ball-handling skill and/or who don't have speed and a side-step.

Maximum one player on the field who is a hog or can't/won't offload. Currently we have way to many of these guys.

Rugby league in general has too many.
(Note: I love Boyd Cordner but he is just an awful hog. Lucky he has speed, can hit a hole and can tackle!).

Really like to see some set plays from last tackle kicks. There just doesn't seem to be any cohesion between players on the last.
Direct cross field kicks to the wingers with the centres knowing to be ready for the tap back. Reverse/inside kicks at the posts for the fullback running through. Grubbers for back rowers etc.

Most of all, 2 planned and co-ordinated kicks so a last second change can be made by the halves.

For example;

Plan A: Look to play to one side and set for kick back on the inside at the posts with Mbye running through to collect.

Plan B: Grubber between A & C defenders for Lawrence to pounce.

Most importantly Mbye and Lawrence don't deviate from their runs, then Brooks knows for certain he has two chasers running those lines and just has to pick the best option at the time.

Melbourne have done this best in recent years. Commentators say how well Cronk and Slater know each others game. Pretty sure they aren't mind readers and all those tries they combined for off kicks was repetition at training and having a set Plan A and Plan B when in attack and all players knowing their roles on the last and sticking to it.
