Something the forum doesn't know about you?

Could be anything. Something you've done in your life, a secret hobby, maybe even a secret talent, anything. We've all conversed on here some of us for yrs, yet at the end of the day, don't really know that much about each other, outside what our opinions are on the club, and a few other topics.

I'll get it started:

I have a pretty obsessive interest in the history of American Politics. I can name every American President going all the way back Franklin D. Roosevelt, and have a particular interest in Eisenhower, Kennedy and Nixon. This little hobby has cost a bomb too, i've bought no less than 20 books over the last yr, and with my Bday and Christmas coming up, when the gf asked me what i wanted, i just said books. So I have another stack on the way which should keep me occupied for a while.

What about everyone else, as i said we can be talking anything.

I have a very keen interest in horses, not just racing but all types..
I used to be a team roper on the rodeo circuit with the Australian Bushmans Campdraft and Rodeo Association,I also was an endurance rider with the Snowy River Zone…
I would like to do a course on Myofacial Therapy for horses which means basically muscular massage on horses that have sustained an injury..this differs from horse chiropractic as it deals mainly with skeletal manipulation, similar to human chiro....
All interesting, just getting the time to study, difficult if you have full time work and a young family...
People used to bring horses to me that needed retraining and I enjoyed that..eg a horse that had no steering because it wasn't mouthed properly at the break in stage,I would work on it by softening the mouth and teaching it leg aids as well..I could go on for ages about horsey things, but this gives you an idea...
Good thread GNR as a lot of us have heaps of different interests and hobbies..

I am an avid cyclist - both mountain biking and road. Last year my wife and I visited Europe (to catch up with her family) but also do some cycling in the French/Swiss Alps and the Italian Dolomites. Also combined the Tour de France's visit to Alpe Duez! Had a brilliant time - would be doing it 'full time' if I could afford it!

Cycling doesn't really do much for me as a spectator sport, though i could watch the Tour de France all night just for the scenery.

I used to collect magic the gathering cards, have thousands of them, don't have anyone to play them with though, am counting down the years till my son is old enough to play then with me, he is 7 so only a couple of years to go

I collect and restore old school BMX bikes , from the late 70's to the late & mid 80's . There's a massive market for these old school icons . Brands like .. Skyway , PK Ripper , Haro , Kuwahara , Raleigh , Diamond back etc … A fully restored Haro freestyler will fetch anything between $1500 - $3500 depending on the year . Once the frames & forks have been painted , powder coated or re- chromed I usually assemble them in the lounge while watching the footy ( much to the mrs's dislike ) lol .

I've played in a couple of local bands, harmonica, saxophone and some vocals, over the years. Mostly covers but had a drummer, pianist and bass player that all wrote their own stuff in the first band I was in. None of it top forty material but had a lot of fun. Recorded some sax backing for a friend of mine a few years back and one song won some sort of ABC music award, or so I've been told.
With kids I no longer have time anymore to even practice. Occasionally play 'Bringing home a baby bumble bee' etc when my 5yo asks me to get out the 'weapon'. (Whereupon she promptly covers her ears and runs away.) But that's about it.

Love James A Michener (the author ) have all his books and used to enjoy reading but last few years fall asleep after a few pages

Also related to a semi famous comedian

been in the aviation industry for just over forty years and looks like I will be getting the golden handshake any day. Started off doing the weight balance on 707'2 dec9's and 727's and now doing A380's. Been a great journey and will miss it big time, but the offer was to good to refuse. Also like most other industries the job had changed and over the past few years I had become a computer operator and technology had taken over my job.

Hey, Hobbo, you might like to know my brother made the Quicksilver bikes from the 70's and still owns the name (I think).
He still has originals, makes parts for guys all around the world and is being considered for induction into the BMX hall of fame in America.
PM me if you wanted to get hold of him for anything.

Cheers mate that's handy to know !
Sounds like your brother has done well for himself !
There's still a lot of debate that the quicksilver bikes were a knock off from the mongoose BMX bikes ???? Some say that Mongoose were making them and shipping them undecaled to OZ . ( who knows tho ). I don't have a quicksilver in my collection ( they're like hens teeth lol ) . Most BMX bikes would've ended up ( like everything else) .. At the tip !
So to all you fellow forum goers who had a BMX as a kid ?
Wether it's still in your garage or half buried in the dirt under your folk's house , go and dig it out !
It could be worth a small fortune !!!

Ha ha - better not say that to my brother . I can tell you he MADE the bikes with his own hands - and still can make them exactly as the originals.
If you're interested in a real original (or a new one made the same as) let me know.

cKtiger … There's an old article on bmxsociaty.com from a few years ago /Quicksilver /Mongoose .. But you know what crap goes around on Forums !
Thanks for the info mate !
