In an early Christmas present for the Sydney Roosters the NRL is set to rubber stamp the contract signed by Sonny Bill Williams.
According to News Limited reports NRL salary cap auditor Ian Schubert has finally agreed to register the code-hopper's one-year deal.
Williams announced he was returning to the NRL with the Roosters five weeks ago and it is understood that the delay involved prizemoney from Williams looming boxing bout. There were fears he could be lost to the game again following the Israel Folau saga.
NRL interim CEO Shane Mattiske told News Limited the circumstances were different to the Folau case.
"In this instance, Sonny Bill Williams has signed and committed to the Sydney Roosters," Mattiske said.
"We are in the process of considering the registration of that contract."
Williams has a heavyweight fight against Francois Botha in the new year before he starts training with the Roosters. The Roosters deal is believed to be worth around $600,000 for the season.
