PLAYERS leading with the forearm are becoming a huge concern with the match review committee - and it could be only a matter of weeks before a player is rubbed out.
Committee chairman Greg McCallum said he had noticed a worrying number of incidents on the weekend, including a hit-up by Manly's George Rose on Jeremy Smith at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night.
"We're concerned by the amount of players leading with the forearm, and there were quite a few incidents on the weekend," McCallum said.
"The players are treading a fine line between bumping players and actually striking. And under the rules this year, the onus of proof just has to be careless, not intentional when the player is carrying the ball."
Melbourne's Bryan Norrie and Eels battering ram Fuifui Moimoi led with the forearm in the space of 90 seconds at AAMI Park on Sunday, while Souths' Dave Taylor's effort on Wests Tigers halfback Tim Moltzen on Friday night also raised eyebrows.
