I would like to see the nrl come in to our board and tell them they have no choice but to have a new board made up of 2 wests , 2 balmain , 2 independent 1 nrl or we may be taken out of the compatition until it is done , we have great juniors coming through , and mixed with the likes of robbie and co , this rubbish , [This word has been automatically removed] fighting , bunch of grubs will destroy this club , the fans should get together and support such a thing , pull the licence or fix the board , we cant go forward with this lot running our club , and please dont think this is something to harm the club its more to save it

Who will then own WT and pour in the $$? NRL will just keep bailing out WT forever?

Find new private owners if you want WT to be run by an truly independent board.

We have to make them worth something first.

Before any chance of private investment we need competent management and corporate governance. Some results on the field as well obviously.

NRL to step in with two board members and a one off cash injection in a series of necessity related drawdowns.

Sounds a bit like communism to me….a bit extreme.
Understand your sentiments tho

Why on earth would you expect Wests Ashfield to accept only 2 board seats when they are single handedly bankrolling the club? They could be put in a position where they are out voted on issues by a majority who bring no funding to the joint venture. No business would finance a club in such circumstances.

I can see a situation where some independent board members were installed simply for their expertise in certain areas but unless they bring some money to the table, they (like Balmain) could not be allowed to out vote Wests Ashfield in finance matters. It's an old saying but it still holds true; he who pays the piper calls the tune. That is simply a reality of business.

Its more likely the NRL will say to us.

'Give Wests an extra seat on the board and use your own money ya bunch of scabs. If you dont wanna do that bugger off and we'll bring in Central Coast, Perth or another Brisbane team.'

When News Limited were "running" the NRL and owning clubs, most were unhappy and wanted News Limted to "sell' those clubs.
Why would you want the ARLC to have a director's insight into our club AND be the Tigers banker? If this happened, there would be reason to really have a whinge!

Thats right. The NRL dont want to be running clubs. And they dont wanna give money to clubs that have their own money. It's not gonna happen and I cant believe people seem to think it will.

I couldn't agree more rollingstone. I shake my head in disbelief when I read about proposals to appoint independent directors to form a majority on the board. I cannot imagine an orgainsation in the world agreeing to provide all the funding for a JV and then allowing itself to be outvoted at board level.

Moreover, why would the NRL tip in money to the WT when it is available within the JV.

I fear some WT supporters, and some board members, don't live in the real world.

In this real world of yours all our problems are due to money. I implore you to think that assertion through. As Smeg said, good governance is critical. No organisation thrives when there are leaks, ego fights, leaders looking backwards as they try to walk forward… More money will only change the headlines, it won't stop them.

Success in any form starts with good decision making. I have f'd things up many times in life. Root cause of all of these f'ups was my own poor decisions. We need better decision making. Money will come.

Sorry, Mccarry, the first thing needed to run a franchise in this competition is money. At the moment, the entity supplying all the funding bar sponsorships, memberships etc requires a majority on the board to continue the funding. That is plain good business sense; you can't have a situation where one entity supplies the money but may not have control over how it is used.

Once the financial situation is settled with agreed board representation, then the club can move forward with some certainty. It seems to me that the partner without the funds and without any prospect of getting the funds, should be satisfied to have any presence on the the board at all. The wailing and gnashing of teeth will settle once the reality of the situation is accepted. It's just a matter of putting the horse before the cart.

As far as the quality of the directors is concerned, both parties are quite free to appoint better ones if they aren't satisfied with the current crop. We have no say in this, since membership of the Wests Tigers does not confer voting rights.
