The Crowd... Why so big you think?

So it was a huge crowd. Why is that you think? I honestly believed we would get 9000 there max.
What do all of you think the reason was for the turnout?
I think the $10 tickets helped immensely.

I think the club learnt a lot tonite.

They learnt what is BS and whats not.

Cheap tix certainly helped, but it is NOT sustainable….the crunch will come when ticket prices return to normal

$10 and a Saturday night probably would have helped. A lot of promotion was put into this game compared to previous matches as well.

A good outcome for Wests Tigers and good showing by everyone who turned up.

Imagine if they allowed a sydney team to lay wests tigers at campbelltown

why would they? that was pretty close to capacity. it'd be better to have that game at ANZ like they did for Souths, Dragons and Eels which all drew solidly (and amazingly in the case of the eels).

16,511 was reported on Fox IIRC.

I was there and I thought it would be closer to 18,000 or so the ground looked full… Enjoyed the ground.... It's very modern with good facilities and parking(took ages to get out of car park)... Compared to LO the atmosphere is very different... Crowd was vocal without really getting into the game like they do at LO... And it was a close game as well... I'd go back...

Great effort by WT in promoting game and the $10 tickets. Been a while since i have rocked up at campbelltown and see the carpark almost full before a game and the club packed with people..

Shame about the loss… Great atmosphere in the crowd also.. Campbelltown still need their WT and WT still need Campbelltown.

Great crowd last night, I thought it was more than they put up but a few empty seats in the grandstand.

what is the capacity out there? I couldn't see many more fitting in

Why such an improved crowd:

My mates from the area said there was a heap of promotion into the game - this heaps get the casual fans out there who may not know the dates of the games

$10 tickets - If the club can get bigger crowds they may make less on the gate but food, drink and merch can make up the difference. If I was the club I would keep prices at around $10-15 for a while and see if the crowds are maintained

And of course a winning team

$10 tickets and heavy marketing is a huge difference but I'm not sure how sustainable it is.

CAMPBELLTOWN SPORTS STADIUM
>
Capacity: 20,000
>
Expenditure: Operational costs: $70,000 (ground rental, hiring of the big screen, ushers, security, police, cleaning and waste removal).
>
Revenue
>
Ticket sales: $170,000 for a sell-out crowd at Campelltown.
>
Merchandise: Roughly worth $1.20 to $1.50 per head ($16,000 in round six for a crowd of just more than 6000)
>
Corporate: $47,000 (capacity of 470 at appx $100 a head)
>
Signage: Greatest opportunity for signage sales of all three venues because the club has 100 per cent inventory. However, appeal is lower because games are rarely on free-to-air television.
>
Average crowd: 13,256 for the past three years. (Six of the past 13games against Sydney teams)

Just having a rough guess, we have approx 9000 members, so assuming half that amount turned up (generous guess imo) that leaves 12000 paying customers at $10 a pop minimum

Gate- $120k
Merch $22k
Corp $47k
Total $190k
Less costs $70k
= profit $120k???

Im probably way off.

That was a very large crowd for an out of town team with top players out.

Not many Balmain jumpers there it seemed that the Macauther and magpie fans turned out in protest to recent publicity CSS would lose games.

Shows that Campbelltown want to remain part of the tigers and with right marketing game time etc they will go.

Reckon if Farah and lical boy teddy played 20k was on.

Once again I thought the crowd was under stated by a thousand or two, felt and looked like a 18000 crowd. Maybe they have a sneaky turnstile so they can get some black money

Mayer has stated that publicly it is listed as holding 20,000, but privately (and realistically) it would hit capacity at 17,000.

that makes sense. i guess 18k would be the absolute max, with many people pretty much unable to get a view of the game.

no clue how we got 19k+ in previous years….

if theres some more 16k+ crowds in the next year or so we should look at upgrading CS
