The Current Crop

I really can’t speak for you guys, but you do have 2 ears and 1 tongue for a reason.

I’m just curious – does anyone on this public forum disagree, in that, currently this is the bests West Tigers squad ever assembled?

Anyone?

This is our song, our theme, & & i thing it be a good thing to remind you of where we came from. To think - still to to this day, I do not now who's brilliance it was to select that song. That guy had a vision. Whatever became of him?

"Eye Of The Tiger"

Rising up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive

So many times it happens too fast
You change your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

Face to face, out in the heat
Hanging tough, staying hungry
They stack the odds 'til we take to the street
For the kill with the skill to survive

And so on……

Have a great weekend everybody – even if we lose – we win. It’s a no lose situation.
The page of history unfolds. Enjoy the journey to new heights.

If only ye all had the same confidence the players had you would understand.

Enjoy it while it lasts I SAY!

And someone please if they can - enlighten me on how we can keep all these superstars that have popped up like pimples before the prom???? It’s not like we are the Roosters or Bulldogs…..

quite a few times in the past i have said that the actual squad they have is better than the one that won it in 05\. what the 05 squad proved however was that talent alone is not always the deciding factor.

having said that, i agree that this years squad is possibly the best wests tigers have had. i still see the centres as a weak spot right now though, and hope that as the year goes on lawrence can recapture his old form and simona can continue where he left off last year.

if the centres were a bit better i would have no doubt this is the best squad the tigers have ever had.

ps: thanks for getting Survivor stuck in my head!!

Not yet. In absolute terms our best was 2010\. But these guys will be our best if we develop them, keep them on the books and on the field. If I could add Ellis into our 2014 squad at the peak of his abilities then that would make the entire team far more dangerous.

Simona and Lawrence aren't a bad centre pairing. When have we had a better pair ?

on paper they are an awesome pairing! only thing in the way of my saying they are the best the tigers have had is that simona hasnt played a game this year and lawrence has been well below his form of pre hip injury seasons.

if simona continues as he has done and lawrence can get back to his best, then yes, they would have to be considered the best centre pairing imo.

come to think of it, i dont think there have been many great centre pairings in their history…maybe they are the best!!

In 05 we Elford and Whatuira. To me Simona and Elford are a lot better. Ayshford to me doesn't compare to SImona - there is a huge difference in class.

I think we have the best crop of youngsters the club has ever had.

The junior talent coming through now and in the next 1-3 years is better than in 2005 in my opinion.

It was astute purchasers and a game plan that took advantage of rules interpretations that won us the grand final in 2005\. Sheens for all his faults took full advantage of the quick play the balls allowed in 2005 and had a game plan than run the opposition bigger packs buggered.

It was the buying of Scott Prince and Brett Hodgson that made that team great. They complimented the junior talent at the club and gave them direction on the field.

As much as I hate Manchester United their best period come on the back of great junior
talent coming through at once, Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, Neville brothers etc… They complemented that with good purchasers such as Roy Keane and Eric Cartona to make a great team.

The next few years can be great for the Tigers if we keep the right juniors and add the right experienced guys to the squad. I think our biggest need is a new Gareth Ellis type second rower, hard hitting and hard running with a big engine.

The recruitment drive that Sheens and co undertook at the end of 2003 was key as we just missed out in 2004 and then went on a run in 05.

Benji came through the ranks but we also signed Hodgo, Prince, Payten, Elford, Richards and to a lesser extent Buettner, Moodie, Sattler and Ben Reynolds but that is a lot of experience to bring into a squad with quality youth coming through the ranks.
Then to bring in Whatuira (and Rieck) in 05 assisted.

Current squad has bucketloads of potential, could mix of size in the forwards and speed in the backs. If Brooks and Anasta/Austin fire, then who knows.

The current squad of Juniors is just sensational. Keeping them all together will be the key to our future success.
Gareth Ellis was a big loss when he got injured agree. I am hoping Sirro or Lovett ends up a similar style of player.
