The Weight of Expectation on Luke Brooks

I hope it doesn't crush him, because supporters are keen for some success after what's happened the last two seasons. I hope he's got some mentoring some way.

Potter did a great job with our debutants last year. Out of the 10 debutants, Buchanan, Ava, Sue and Nofa were a big part of our team. Brooks and Brown look to have a real future. Luani will be a great backup for Farah.

Not to mention he really transformed the games of Teddy, Simona and Siro. Teddy really showed his class in the second half of the season after taking some time to warm back into the game. He exposes some untapped talent in Simona, and has begun transitioning Siro into a lethal backrower.

Basically what I'm trying to say is … Potter has shown he knows how to handle young players. And don't underestimate the value of having Payten by his side. Will make Brooks all the more comfortable having a familiar face around

In that 1 game he played he showed more maturity than some of our seasoned first graders. He will be sweet. Along with all our other youngsters.

However we all can not expect that kind of game every round. He will become a target.

Its only coming from over eager supporters with perhaps too high expectations. Leave the kid alone and let him play. Its not fair on him.

His job will be made a lot easier if the forwards go forward. It should give him that extra second or two in attack to sum up the play in front of him and go from there.

Presuming Anasta starts the year at 6 he will be a great on field mentor to Brooks.

It's the only reason I'd have Anasta on the field at all, and even then I would scrutinize it carefully.

Very true Willow

Our forwards go forward is the key

The other key is how our backs aim up and how many options they can provide in attack

A fully functioning Lawrence will make a huge difference

Seeing Luke Brooks play is what has me looking forward to the new season the most. The biggest risk I see is how his young body holds up in the senior grade.

I just want to see Luke Brooks play like Luke Brooks and all the ups and downs that may entail.

I don not expect a one man show, I think the days of the one man show carrying a team to glory are over

Being a local junior will help him during the lean times…fans are a bit more forgiving with one of our own.

The first few weeks the media scrutiny will be fairly high I'd imagine

If Brooks plays the same style of game he did against the Dragons then I think the forwards will go forward. He was playing a direct game and that forced the bigs fellas to go direct.

Either way, he's young and will have his ups and downs. It's easy to accept that with young guys, it's the seasoned first graders that it's hard to cop it from.

He'll be fine. I think the club will probably shield him a little bit.

Interesting point Ink, the fact that he's a junior (i.e. probably not on a huge wicket just yet,) will earn him some reprieve as well to stop a Blair- or Benji-like bollocking when he has a bad game or two. Fans also seem to be a little more forgiving to players who don't take up a chunk of the salary cap as well.

If the forwards dont do their job, the opposition will soon work Brooks out…its always forwards first, starts with them

Completely agree. This was the exact case with Benji. When we had a mean forward pack with Gibbs, Heino, Ellis, Fifita, Galloway etc, he completely carved apart opposition defense. Honestly, when he was on form behind good go forward the shit he could pull was freakish.
When our forward pack started struggling early 2012, the opposition started figuring him out and our entire game plan went to shit.
All starts with the forwards. The forwards won't necessarily win you the game but will lay the essential groundwork for the halves to set up tries.

Brooks will go great if we all support him through thick and thin. Tigers fans have been calling out for change for a number of years and it has resulted in a very big clean out. We now need to be patient or we won't see results

:unamused:

Yes forwards do do the job. But let's not BS ourselves and make excuses for benjis poor form. Brooks came in for 1 game behind the same pack and had no problem.

As benji said in that presser brooks directed the team well. If he keeps that up we will be sweet.
