understand their intent but boy oh boy, the referees don't allow any latitude...

Saves having your head belted and ongoing concussion problems.

Agree, but what I am saying is that you can tell an intentional swing versus an accidental tap...all for protecting the head, don't get me wrong, but some of the penalties tonight were highly questionable. Maybe we all need to get used to the new world.

Lodge was put on report for a high shot but not binned. I thought the whole point of the new rules was straight to the bin if head contact.

I agree that some of the penalties in our game were love taps.

Inconsistency, as always.

Players are going to have to adapt and keep their arms much lower when tackling.

Melbourne will replace all of their players with dwarves to get the maximum advantage from the new rules. :grinning:

I don't get why rulings can't be based on common sense. Penalties and sin binnings for incidental head contact is ludicrous. I've had more impact on my scalp whilst combing my hair than some of those head contact decisions. If ever there was a way to ruin a contact game, this would have to be it.

They have backed themselves into a corner ,as you say in such a combative game incidental contact is inevitable ..last night within 5 minutes 2 players in the bin from the same team .
In a close game its game over for that team !
The NRL have screwed themselves with this one .

With all the improvements we get blow outs in 90% of games.
I watched a game from 1980 yesterday. They gave the round results at the end. Every game was close. The largest margin was 10 points.

Remember this was with no salary cap.

Did Douehi's tackle make any contact with the head at any stage?

And the penalty against Luciano after Nofa's offload?

While it may have been technically correct it was just plain ridiculous.
It was one of those penalties that no ref would have the testicles to call against the Roosters or Melbourne or Parra or Penrith.

Inconsistency from a ref?? Really?? What a surprise. And, people gamble on this game?

Gambling is what it is.
Always a risk.
It's not designed for you to win....

Might get lucky sometimes tho.
