Tiger Tommy beats cancer - again

Great news for my Ipswich Jets brother

Tommy's tougher than his vocal cords , I gave crap to every other coach I have been involved with bar Tommy

Fear and respect can do amazing things

Well bar the time we nailed his green folder to one of the wooden benches LOL

Thats great news. Tommy's a Legend in every sense of the word. Cocky, combative, an outstanding leader on the field, that never gave up and refused to be beaten by any man. Has a heart of gold too. Love the man.

happy - was he ipswich jets before wests magpies?

Yes AHX , he coached Brisbane Brothers in the BRL and he got the sack in around 1983 and was coaching up at either Gatton or Fassifern in the local Ipswich comp when they asked him to coach Ipswich from 85-88 ?? from memory

I told the story before but the mad bastard swam some monstrous surf up the Sunshine Coast to win a bet with a surf lifesaver

We couldn't work out why Steve Nance was trying to stop him , and that was when he had already been diagnosed with Cancer the 1st time in 87

We didn't know ,Steve did

I remember when he hadhis first battle with cancer( testicular )
And his answer to that was" So what, you only need one ball in a Rugby League game)
May him and his attitude for life , be around for many years to come.

You can imagine what life was like During the Lidcombe Oval years, when Tommy and Dallas Donnelly were both in the team, It was never dull for the Coach

Add Boyd O'Grady Gibbs Doharhy Guiteau and Mullins into the mix and Roy would have his hands full in the sheds thats for sure,,,,

God I miss Dallas what a legend

Grew up on the bike track at Lidcombe X and if I wasn't there…I was sliding on a cardboard box down the back of the Hill

Started out on the Hill beside the Northern light tower, and had almost a permanent spot there until 1980 ( when we moved to the GC) in the days when we took our fold up chairs,
By that time was married and had a daughter who was in the original cheer squads when she was about 7, ( just a bunch of kids that one of the supporters had organised,) ( nothing like today's squads) She thought that the sun shone out of Tommy and Dallas . Still does 35 yrs later.

Yep.
Every day I walked out the front gate, first thing I saw was the club over the railway lines…Used to see Jim Murphy on the garbo truck around Ashfield...lots of Magpies around locally, Joe Cool selling snags at Lidcombe, my coach was Ken Hey, Mick Liubinskas coached Concord, my jnr club was named in honour of a Magpie legend, my schools footy jumpers were old maggies jumpers from the club next door....your region chose your team for you back then

He is still my all time no.1 favourite footy player.
Has been my idol from age of 7, and still is after all these years.
Good on you Tommy, don't ever back down.
