Tigers are fine without Benji: Farah

Captain Robbie Farah says the Wests Tigers have enjoyed a seamless transition into life at the NRL club without superstar Benji Marshall.

Despite his indifferent form last season, Marshall’s departure to rugby union has left a hole at the joint-venture but after beginning pre-season training this week Farah insists it is one that can be filled.

“I don’t think we have missed a beat really,” Farah said on Tuesday.

“The boys say they have been training well, the halves are going well, there is a lot of competition there for the person who wants the no.6 jersey.

“We are really excited about the challenge. Obviously it is going to be difficult to replace Benji but it is a challenge we are looking forward to.

“It is different (without Benji) and it is always hard when you lose a player you have played so many years alongside.

“But it is not the first time I have been through it. I have been here my whole career and one by one they have all seemed to move on. There are a few of us left and we have got a few back in Patty Richards and Deany Halatau but that’s part of footy, life goes on and you just have to move on.”

A member of the Australian squad that reclaimed the World Cup in November Farah, and Marshall have long been synonymous with the Tigers and spearheaded the club’s NRL campaigns through much of the last decade including their 2005 premiership triumph.

With former five-eighth Marshall gone Farah said he doesn’t now feel a weightier burden of leadership on his shoulders.

“I don’t see it that way,” the NSW hooker said.

“I am the captain here, that (leadership) comes with the territory. I have a good leadership group around me that helps me out every day.

“I will just keep doing what I have been doing.

“I don’t think my role will change too much.”

Unfortunately Benji was horrible last year bar one or two games. I really think he blew the whole gig up from within.

Whoever plays 6 will do better. Just make the tackles and no stupid passes and we will be better off.

Wests Tigers have their best chance in many seasons to build a well co-ordinated backline in defence and attack. If they can manage this they will be, with the improved forward pack they now have, be on their way towards a good 2014 season. Easier said than done but if the coaches put the hard work in it will happen.

This season is shaping up to be one full of surprises… Wests are unpredictable this season, which I think suits them perfectly. No burden of having the 'favourites' tag on them, no real expectation of having a stellar season... Cannot explain how excited I am for this season!

Benji played a dangerous high risk game and most of these plays rarely paid off and when they did he was classed a magical player but he wasn't. Throwing no look passes. Not making touch. Kicking lotto bombs midfield that sometimes went backwards. He won't be missed by me.

This is the first season we will finally have some structure. It is bursting with potential that can very likely be realized this season.

I hate putting pressure on brooks but he is good. One game in first grade and he basically dominated in all areas. Now I don't expect that every game but I do think it shows what class he is in and having a quality half like him with the likes of Simona, koro, noff, teddy, sirro and many more I think we can go very far this year.

Have faith.

Robbie is a good club man and there's no way he's going to say 'we are going to be stuffed without Benji' or anything like that.

Just the same, I don't see how it's a good thing that its half way through January and we don't know who our 5/8's going to be.

I'd rather have a Neville at 5/8 who follows orders than Marshall who didn't have a clue what he was doing most of the time and was a liability in defence. A few 'brilliant' moments do not make up for the multitude of mistakes he made. I'm glad he is playing rah rahs.

**We do know who our 5/8 is going to be.\

Barring injury it will be Braith Anasta.**

It will be anasta or Austin until Moses is ready. So we do know.

It will definitely be Anasta (barring injury). Austin will be playing NSW cup untill Anasta gets injured. Given his track record and current age, I seriously doubt Anasta will play injury free for more than 6-10 rounds.

Anasta six to ten rounds. do we have anyone who goes more then six to ten rounds without getting injured?. Hopefully this Year we wont have so many injuries.

As posted last year Anasta is too slow & cumberson to be in the halves,he reads the game well in both attack & defence but doesn't have the speed to do anything about it,easy mark for the opposition and it will leave a large target on Brooks.I hope i'm wrong but thats my Neville Nobody opinion.
