TIGERTALK COLUMN: ADAM BLAIR
12/04/2012 11:18:07 AM
Wests Tigers second-rower Adam Blair says Liam Fulton is the type of player every side needs.
Writing in the Campbelltown Advertiser for the Club's weekly 'TigerTalk' column, Blair has been highly impressed with Fulton's work rate.
BLAIR'S BANTER
"One win from six matches is not the way everyone at Wests Tigers imagined we would be at this time of the season.
It has been a very disappointing start but I can assure Wests Tigers fans, we are not giving up. Sure, it is not good to be sitting where we are on the Telstra Premiership ladder after 6 rounds but we know we are a better side than our current position shows.
There have been a number of factors that have contributed to our performances from injuries to losing captain and hooker Robbie Farah for two games through suspension but we are offering no excuses.
We don’t have time for that. There is a very strong roster here at Wests Tigers and if we lose a player through injury or suspension, we have every faith in the player chosen to step up to the mark and do the job for us.
A classic example of this has been Liam Fulton. I always thought Liam was a quality player when I was at the Storm but to now play alongside him, you certainly do appreciate the enormous amount of work ‘Fults’ does.
He did exceptionally well filling in at hooker for Robbie in our losses to Canberra and Souths. He makes plenty of tackles every week and does plenty of clean up work on the field that often goes unnoticed. He is the type of player you love playing with.
Last Friday night, Liam was at it again, this time playing second-row in the absence of the injured Gareth Ellis (foot). Losing Gareth is a major blow but Liam was again strong in the loss to Brisbane. Fortunately, we have welcomed back prop Keith Galloway from a toe injury and Robbie led us around well in his first game back from suspension.
We had some early chances against Brisbane but failed to capitalise on them. The Broncos put on two quick tries and we were on the back foot early but we never gave up and came home strong.
It was a big effort from the boys as we were left with just 15 men for the second half after losing Chris Heighington (broken hand) and Matt Groat (concussion). Heighno is another player we will miss dearly but we must soldier on and we will.
We have a tough game this Sunday at Centrebet Stadium when we take on the Penrith Panthers, who will be hurting badly after their big loss to Manly on Monday night. It is a game we must win. We are working very hard for that win.
Don’t give up on us Wests Tigers supporters. We need your support as much as ever. Penrith is just a short drive from the Macarthur region so we hope to see as many of our fans there as possible cheering us on. I’m sure a win is just around the corner for us."
