An explosive blog post yesterday uncovered the rotten truth behind the loudest voice backing the Lockouts:

The Tomas Kelly Youth Foundation was set up by his father after the one-punch that tragically killed Tomas. It has since been the leading voice behind the draconian punish-all lockout laws.

Now its been revealed that the foundation raised $240,000 last financial year, chiefly from casino donations, and Ralph Kelly has lined his pocket with a salary of $127,000 (including super).

Since this blog was posted last night, the TKYF site and facebook page has mysteriously gone down.

More than 50% of the total incoming for the foundation.

I've never been to a protest or rally before, but i'm joining the #KeepSydneyOpen rally tomorrow in the city. I've never punched anyone in my life, why am I being punished for that?

My missus used to work in emergency and she hated weekends due to footie injuries and drunkards, fighting etc.. Nothing to do with Thomas Kelly. And it is still same emergency depts chiefs that the pollies are listening to. It costs a fortune to support an chronically, seriously injured person for a life time so it is an economic issue as well.

Is the same in Byron, the violent attacks are concentrated after about 1.30am., that is the deadly time.

The reasoning that I have not punched anyone or copped a punch yet…. is the same as saying I have not died from not wearing a seat belt yet so why should I have to wear one.

Rubbish. Its not the same at all. One involves a very minor inconvenience and the other involves a serious restriction on freedoms.

The worst killer in NSW is road accidents. If we reduced the speed limit to 10kmh, there would be no road accidents but we accept that would be a disproportionate response. The lockouts are also a disproportionate response.

The speed limit is severely restricted in dangerous areas around infant schools etc. and in carparks is only 5 or 10 kmh per hour. To enforce a 10 kmh would be the same as one middie only limit whether driving or not and that would probably guarantee no drunken violence a all. So both situation are kept in balance.

I don't like how that Kelly guy gets a top salary like Warnie's charity bods do but that is a different issue. I don't believe casinos should exist so that is a different issue as well.

I am a bit old fashioned and think that one should be in half decent condition for work next day so send them home earlier with less grog is a desirable effect. Or if not work then decent for something else

I agree with BBF that Ralph Kelly's salary and the lockout laws are two different issues. I'm indifferent about the latter but geez it undermines your efforts to do something to honour your son when you're pulling in 127k a year in salary plus whatever else you're getting in contra.

1:30am lockouts and 3am last drinks across the Sydney entertainment precinct (which coincidentally does not include the cash cow casino which gets the odd benefit from the laws).

They've been in force for a while. How successful they've been seems to depend on who is quoting what statistics.
