TV series that you couldn't miss...(not Netflix)

The Sopranos
The Sheild
Banshee
Ray Donovan
Arrested Development
US Office

The Shield is/was underrated I reckon.
Kurt Sutter who was heavily involved with it went on to make Sons Of Anarchy which I hated but on a second watch I loved.

I think the Sopranos is the best show of all time.

Hectic list.

The streaming service has essentially killed the anticipation of watching a show each week and everyone talking about it, looking forward to what happens in the next episode the following week.

I find myself not even bothering with new shows and waiting until they're complete to just watch them all at once.

Yah this is really interesting aye - especially now that I have kids. If my son was to watch something, we would just put it on. No waiting, no ads... it's right there for you when you want it.

Growing up, I used to love rushing home to catch Nickelodeon shows. Would usually get home just in time for Kenan & Kel.

And it's not just TV. So much is accessible on-demand. Life is going to be so different for them.

100% mate.
Ive only watched SOA once and didnt like it much.
I know they are Outlaw Bikers and are supposed to be scumbags, but they just didnt get it right for mine. The Sopranos was a show full of pieces of shit too and the difference in quality is stark.
I remember when Sopranos first came on telly, there were good drama shows before it like E.R. and The West Wing but this one was dark. The main character was an evil arsehole who did some horrendus things to people who he knew well. The show never shied away from the fact that these people didnt see themselves as monsters, rather business men who happened to be tough guys as well. It was great.
Yes The Sheild is under rated for mine as well. What happens when you run a task force within a police department to combat the worst gangs in the worst city? Well you become them. Its another story with an antihero who doesnt see himself as a monster even though he does terrible things. Dexter is the same...they justify their actions because those they are hunting are worse. I find that shit really interesting. The blurring of the lines is real life and there are plenty out there like it to some degree.

Sopranos is so well written and acted.
Great character development too.
Just the perfect show.

Oz is pre - Sopranos and very messed up.
Lots of characters and lots of development.
Gritty 90s feel.

Sons made sense to me on second watch.
It's a soap opera but there's a bit going on in there.
Can see both sides.
Most of the sheild actors get a start in it too.

The first season of Twin Peaks was a must watch at the time

The 2nd season got weird & the spin-off movies got weirder.

David Lynch out weirded himself .

As Quentin Tarantino said about Lynch ….

“I'm not ragging on other people, but after I saw Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me at Cannes, David Lynch has disappeared so far up his own ass that I have no desire to see another David Lynch movie”

Ouch 😂

The quality of TV shows has jumped through the roof in the last 10-20 years (although, it could be argued it's regressing again now).

I can remember waiting each week for the X Files & Seinfeld. I'm sure there are a number of shows I could name- but those 2 were standout quality for their time.

Game of Thrones, Sopranos, Breaking Bad....these shows broke the mold open & made TV viewing on par, or superior quality, to film. Quality actors started turning to TV careers instead of trying to break big in cinema- and the production values on these shows escalated. I would name all three of those shows on the list, easily.

For mine, the first few seasons of Game of Thrones, changed TV. And might be my absolute favourite show (even allowing for the wayward end series) of all time.

GOT was best when it had the books to follow(which it usually did),it certainly lost the plot a little when it reached the end of them although parts of the end were hinted at all through the books with no impossible shocks

The Goodies and Monkey Magic. Both haven't aged well.

My Daily watch is Seinfeld.
Pigsy died recently.
Used to love Monkey Magic and still have the sound track.
It's rare for shows to last past the generation they made in.
Young Ones is a good example. Would never miss it when I was young but can't watch it now. For some strange reason I still love the Addams Family.

Did you read the books. Shit all over the series (which was also great the first few seasons - the last - what a piss-poor ending.) Shame Martin never had the cojones to wrap it up on paper.

Ren & Stimpy was sick until Nickolodeon caved in to pressure & dialled it down.
A lot of fuss in Oz n USA to have it band, certainly didn't start off as a cartoon for kids. Cat Dog, Angry Beavers n Roco's modern life were others that pushed the envelope from Nickelodeon

Reality Tv killed good TV, the networks could show absolute trash and rate through the roof.

I loved the UK version of the office, Luther, Borgen on SBS, Edge of Darkness, The Goodies, faulty Towers, MASH and most British comedies around the 70s and 80
One I forgot… Hill street Blues

Back in the day when we had two kinds of TV, Black and White, I really loved Shintaro-The Samurai. Not so much the modern take The Phantom Agents - but they did have a great tagline "We're Phantom Agents - A gun is the last resort!"

Enjoyed The Beatles Cartoons & Simon Townsend's Wonderworld!

Sorry, but last one:

The Rex Mossop Club Show! Somehow got Sid Williams to appear after the 1969 GF! Classic.

Shintaro LT, one of my all time faves.
Plus Minder and many others. Good to remember a lot of those old shows, many of which I watched on the old black and white telly.
With most of the family gathered around.
