Just wondering what you peeps thought of vaccinations. I never get any shots or vaccinations and never will. I wasn't scared of the swine flu. It's just like the normal flu but the media was trying to make it sound like the black plague. Anyway I guess the flu season is coming back around and we will probably start hearing more about it again. I normally just let my immune system fight off any bugs I get and I normally don't even take any medication or antibiotics. There are alot of natural ways to improve your immune system. Anyway if you are thinking of getting a shot then maybe you should think twice. Here's one of many videos about the subject:

if you have a family, then its good for wife and kids to be vaccinated.
must admit when I was going thru a period of heavy drinking I rarely suffered from flu etc.
probably too much spirits in my system for a bug to survive. ( damn I liked home brew burboun)

haha Maybe I should start drinking then haha

Did you watch any of those videos? I'm not too sure if it is good for anyone to take those vaccinations. Why take the risk just for the flu? Unless you have a very weak immune system the flu isn't going to kill you, and there are lots of ways to improve your immune system so your body will fight it better.

For the elderly or infirmed the flu vaccine has it's definite advantages.

I got my childhood vaccinations na dhave not had anything since as I have a good immune system at this stage and the times when it was weak were times when I was unable to take it such as coming through chemo etc.

I don't by into the propaganda machine of the anti vaccine folk as the majority of them actually hold some belief that vaccines will be used as a catalyst for population monitoring in a very 1984 fashion.

Every person should know the factual risks and benefits weigh them up and make their own decision

Try tell that to these people: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1918_flu_pandemic

I got a flu shot before i went travelling around the globe. I got violently ill from them injecting me with a flu virus so my body would build immunity to a few influenza strains i would/may not have even contracted. Now i think back i'm glad i did it back then as i didn't get sick too often whilst i was overseas for several years, but never again.
My new job offered me free flu injections last Friday, i told them to shove it!!

What do you mean?

Did they try to pressure you into it?

Because of my age it is recommended to get:-Yearly flu shot,Swine flu shot plus a shot lasting 5 years for Pneumonia,
acting on the advise given I accepted and got 2 in one go followed a week later by the other. All is well no reactions….

Wow that's alot of shots. Some of the stuff I have been reading says mercury stays in your system after the shots and the reactions don't aways happen straight away. I don't think doctors are allowed to say that you shouldn't have the shots but when some of them won't take the shots themselves or won't give them to their children then that makes me concerned. I was reading about what happened when swine flu was around the mid 1970's. Back then they were saying swine flu was related to the 1918 epidemic and were saying that it would kill millions of people. It didn't and most casualties were actually reactions to the vaccine. I think maybe they rushed the vaccine through back then without proper testing and it wouldn't surprise me if they have done the same thing now. The reason why I made this thread was because I wanted to know what people thought about vaccinations and also find out if their have been people that have had bad effects from a vaccine or have known anyone that has. Also if they have been pressured or harassed at work or by others to get vaccinated. People in my family have talked about getting vaccinated and have talked about it quite a bit but I have decided not to get a shot. My feelings are telling me not to and I will trust my own feelings.

I've had a few shots for overseas travel and just general vaccines back here. I had the swine flu shot which was fine but the first (and only) time I got the flu shot, I came down crook for a couple of weeks.

The key "scientific fact" behind the anti-vaccine campaign is the rise in the number of children with autism over the past few decades.

Anyone who is against the childhood vaccination program will show the direct correlation between the number of autism cases and the increase in childhood vaccinations. This is a solid argument and it serves as the corner stone for the fear-mongering from their side of the debate, but they fail to take into account one very interesting fact (and remember this next time you meet someone who is against the program):
The rise in the number of autism cases over the past few decades can be attributed to the lowering of the standards by which autism is diagnosed. The simple truth is that a child who wasn't diagnosed with autism in the 70's would have been diagnosed with it today because the "goal posts" have slowly been getting wider and wider.

Therefor the argument that autism cases are "on the rise" is flawed.
There is no scientific evidence to suggest that vaccines are in any way related.

In fact lately the anti-vaccine camp has been promoting this idea that vaccines are causing autism in animals too, like Charlie the Autistic Spaniel! Listen to their reasoning which proves the dog demonstrates autistic behavior:

[Charlie, who] even bit Mrs Davis on the face and her husband Chris on the hand!

it's your choice
I would

NB: got my swine one today - i'm growing tentacles as we speak

HAHAHA Kul you make it sound like everyone that is concerned about the vaccinations all believe the same things and have some kind of weird agenda.

autism was tentatively linked to the MMR vax - the initial paper making this connection had 13 (from memory) scientists sign in agreeance (the lancet report) - the only remaining dr in agreeance (dr wakefield) has subsequently been charged with breeching his professional duties ([see here](http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/7d74f256-103d-11df-841f-00144feab49a.html)).

i have in the past delayed vax (ie the girls did not have their CP done as i was pregnant at the time and did not feel 100% safe with the potential transfer risk to myself despite having had CP in the past, molly had vax delayed due to reflux and it was just too much for her system) however i would never *not* vaccinate - ever seen a baby/child struggling to breath from whooping cough? ever had a child with measles/CP so bad it's down their throat/under their eyelids - it's not pretty and not something i would wish on my worst enemy.

i haven't had the swine flu vax nor will i be - again it's a safety issue for me (that and the fact they were manufacturing the vax prior to TGA approval - but that's me being a tad cynical :laughing🙂 - i'm not satisfied with the testing on pregnant/breastfeeding women (which they will never be able to do as it's simply not safe to use live human subjects for testing) nor the amt of testing of children under the age of 10 yet these are 2 of the main groups targeted for vaccination.

it's all about choice - but you need to make an educated and informed choice.

My parents and sister got some flu vaccine and they have come down crook. I'm staying away from them. I don't want to catch what they have. Before they tryed telling me that I should get it too. I told them it might not be a good idea but they never listen and laughed like they think they know everything. I'm glad I didn't listen to them and I bet they now wish they listened to me.

i believe the flu vax for this season has been changed to inc a strain of Swine Flu - it should also be noted that the flu vax only cover the previous seasons main flu and obviously they mutate/change over time.

as for getting sick - could be a coincidence - there's a couple of quite nasty bugs going around atm (i'm currently under the weather from one) so i wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that it was the vax that caused it (it can but i know many ppl that have had the swine flu vax without side effect as well, i never had an issue when i have had the flu vax in the past - with 3 under 2 at the time there was no way i could afford to cop a nasty dose of the flu).

I have a 12 week old who was diagnosed with whooping cough at 4 weeks old.

Up all night every time you hear her cough to make sure she doesn't choke on her own mucas, watching her cough until her eyes water and her lips turn blue.

Hospitalised for three days as her oxygen levels were falling too low.

She was too young to be vaccinated but her older brothers have been. Whilst they also caught it, it wasn't anywhere near as severe as the baby. It is easy to say that vaccinations can do this and can do that but until you have seen a baby with whooping cough or polio (which is coming back) you cannot really comment. It is a no brainer….
