The whole point of this thread is to get perspective from magpie fans about their own club.

This is a chance to educate us Wests Tigers fans the rich history of your club..

I am trying to be open minded.

Why is it such a sensitive topic?
Why are you lot avoiding it?
Are there Skeleton's in the closet you're trying to hide?
Do you think we are so naive that Balmain wasn't a complete basket case too? We can have a discussion and acknowledge the issues from both sides - because the bulk of us have no alignment to Balmain or magpies.

I literally said on a previous page I think Wests McArthur should come back into the mix.

I understand the loyalty to the magpies, I don't understand the defensiveness and inability to have a two way conversation (asking and answering questions)...

What are you on about - Wests Campbelltown is such a minor part of Wests Magpies history - they only came in to play when Wests Ashfield bought Campbelltown kangaroos club when Wests were moving to Campbelltown. The club was run from Ashfield until mid 1990s when they became independent from Ashfield. I'm still unsure about the asset of the club. I believe Wests Ashfield gifted it back to the Kangaroos but i can't find anything to substantiate that. From the mid 1990's Wests Ashfield and Wests Campbelltown were 2 seperate entities.
Wests have always seen themselves as the battlers and on 3 seperate occasions their territory was carved up to give to new clubs being St George, then Canterbury and then Parramatta. They played at Pratten Park until 1967 but moved to Lidcombe because the council wouldn't allow football to be played at Pratten Park on Sundays.
When they were kicked out in 1983 they took the NSWRL to court on the grounds it was illegal to do so as the NSWRL was unincorporated and won. The NSWRL became corporated and kicked them out again 1984 so back to court and another win.
So maybe the history of always being the NSWRL whipping boy and being the team that always had to give up its territory and fight to stay in the comp has influenced where they are now - don't know.
As for the debenture system - it is really outdated and should be discontinued however it was necessary at the time it was started in the mid 1950s as a way to provide funds to get the Leagues club up and running.

It’s simple once the brand of a footy club is lost which is the emblem your club is gone. Balmain still have the Tigers. I have embraced this however some haven’t. Magpies fans have been screwed in the JV. Early days was Balmain dominance even the Reserve grade they sent all the duds to magpies. Writing was on the wall when tigers needed Ryde Eastwood and even they dumped them. Now Wests Ashfield dominate and the loud screams from Inner west pop up. This is an unbiased opinion but true.

Club needs to move West and when it does you will find the biggest benefactor the club will ever get will take over. Won’t happen though we are stuck in the inner west with Wests Ashfield.

If this takes a Magpie on the jersey to happen so be it. We follow the Tigers but if Tigers then have to suck it up and follow the Balmain Wests Magpies will that be okay? I doubt it.

Again we are the Wests Tigers but you have to think logically. The broke side of the JV doesn’t have the right to speak on the footy club. The fans do though.

Can you see them investing in the south west with HBG back in charge? I can’t. Once Richo went so did that plan IMO.

Really appreciate this. I didn't know most of that. It helps me understand alot more... and why some of the older heads might have taken the rally the way they did. I always thought it was the other way around (ctown as parent, Ashfield child) - clearly it was all before my time, hence the curiosity. Thanks.

For.me they were.my local team...tribalism was big back then.
I had.no.connection to Cambo at all...ironically Leichhardt became more familiar to me as we often went to Amco Cup games just to hang out and it wasnt far

Yea i was a lidcombe boy as well - i had moved out of Sydney before they moved to Campbelltown so only watched on from afar. I feel that the passion, tribalism of the magpies during the Lidcombe days was very similar to Leichhardt now. The take no prisoners mentality.

Yea i was a lidcombe boy as well - i had moved out of Sydney before they moved to Campbelltown so only watched on from afar. I feel that the passion, tribalism of the magpies during the Lidcombe days was very similar to Leichhardt now. The take no prisoners mentality.

Did you play sport for any Lidcombe teams? I never lived in Lidcombe but family were long time residents

The NSWRL was restructuring the competition and kicked Newtown and Wests out as both clubs were struggling financially. Also those bastard wabbits wanted Newtown gone as it was too close to their territory. Newtown decide not to fight the eviction. After being kicked out the second time and winning another court case Wests were able to show that their financial situation was improved mainly due to Save The Magpies Rock concert at Lidcombe in 1983. Rose Tattoo and The radiators were headline acts and they were allowed to stay in the comp. Originally Newtown was the team moving to Campbelltown and actually played a couple of games there before being kicked out. The writing was on the wall so Wests jumped in and made the move. Because of the expulsion they lost Terry Lamb to Canterbury.

Did you play sport for any Lidcombe teams? I never lived in Lidcombe but family were long time residents

I lived at Auburn. I played for Teachers in the University competition and had a few games fo Bankstown in second division. When i left Sydney i played at Broken Hill and Narromine.

As a boy i went door knocking for donations and also offering to do odd jobs and earn the money - told them why i was there .Lived in Bears territory
Made about $10/15 in the month ,
Absolutely copped a bollocking from 90% of them who were basically St G , Souths supporters
The worst of those i rocked their roofs with no shame and extorted 2 or 3 payments out of them and doubled my donation . Mum was chuffed that i stood up for what i believed in and x2
