Wests Tigers exciting player news this afternoon

Quote Magpiecol: "I really do not know what would make some of you people happy."
There seems to be a strong 'grass is greener' element amongst WT fans, always shopping for a 'marquee' player.
I reckon we've got 3 big marquee names on our books; Woods, Farah and 'the liability' Richards. They don't come much better than those three. Following on we have highlights reel favourites, Tedesco, Tapau, Nofoaluma, Naiqama and Simona, any of whom could be considered 'marquee' players of the very near future, so much so we worry about other teams picking them up.
The grass is always greener, moo.

I was one of the posters who really doubted Richards. I have been really happy with how he has gone this year but if he is in our top 3 players we are a terrible side.

We have a lot of players that are much more important to our team than Richards. The only players I would prefer to leave over Richards are not within our first grade team. Maybe Lawrence leaving would be better for us than Richards but even that is a big call. Lawrence may come good. I'm not sure if Hoeter will be a long term first grader and I suppose we could lose him over Richards.

I agree with the rest of your points though. We have some decent players. I think our issue is that our young halves need to improve and we may need some more speed out wide primarily because Richards is slow. I think though Richards is okay at the moment based upon his performances so far this year.

I think it was last week that Richards was reportedly the number one points scorer in the NRL.
Yet not in the top 3 WT players? Not marquee quality? OK Suit yourself.

Its fair to say Richards has lost a yard or so of pace, although we score the majority of our points through the guy, and his kicking game has got us out of trouble more than once. Will be a big loss which he retires. Would of put the first doggies game to bed if he was playing.

I'm happy with our squad. The players that we have lost hasn't effected our on field performance like I thought it would have. And we haven't had to lose our junior talent. Bodes well for the future as well as this year. Retaining Tim Simona is a big plus for our recruitment / development guys, when other clubs were offering overs.
I assume this is Phil Moss, Jason Taylor and Grant Mayer's doings ?

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that Tim Simona has agreed to terms with the Club for a further two seasons.

Simona, who made his first grade debut for Wests Tigers in 2011, has scored 18 tries in 46 NRL appearances and is another exciting product of the Club’s development system.

The 23-year-old made his International debut for Samoa during last year’s Four Nations tournament and has been selected for this weekend’s Test match against Tonga.

The new deal secures Simona’s future at the Club through until the end of the 2017 season.

“I’m really excited to be able to extend my time here at Wests Tigers,” Simona said. “I’m enjoying my football at the moment and it was always my first preference to stay.

“I’m glad that it has worked out that way and I want to thank the Club for offering me that opportunity.

“I’m looking forward to finishing the year strong and it I’m glad my contract has been sorted early on in the season.”

Simona is currently in camp with the Samoan side and formalisation of his contract to be completed once he returns from Test duties next week.

Head Coach Jason Taylor said the new deal for Simona is another quality retention decision by the Club, following on from Kevin Naiqama’s extension just two weeks ago.

“It’s great to have Tim commit to the Club for a further two seasons,” he said. “He has had a really strong start to the year and I’ve been impressed by his performances each week.

“Tim is an important part of the Club’s future and I’m excited to have him extend his time at Wests Tigers.”

Wests Tigers can also confirm that the Club has granted Shannon McDonnell an immediate release from his second-tier contract.

McDonnell has been playing with the NSW Cup side and has been offered an opportunity to return to the Super League for the remainder of 2015.
