What are the 3 keys to a successful season and what do you class as a successful season

For me the three keys will be
1 Halfback ,Halfback and halfback
How whoever we pick for the position copes with playing inside and outside Farah and Marshall will be crucial In my opinion playing 7 for the Tigers (as a unestablished half) would be the hardest job in the NRL If our selection for 7 fires we are serious contenders if not we will struggle to make the 8 It is as serious as that

2 Injuries
We will need to have a favourable run with injuries and losing either Benji or Farah for any length of time will make things hard (as it would any side in the NRL ) especially with the above situation with the new halfback We have more depth in the forwards which will help and we should be able to cover the backs better than we have in the past but if we were to suffer an injury toll like 2010 again we will struggle

3 Coping with the rep season and winning games we should win

Pretty sure we will see at least 3 guys play SOO this season if fit Rowdy ,Keefy and Farah Won't be surprised to see that number reach 5 with Woods and possibly even Moltzen off the bench

How we cope with that will be crucial What I have noticed is the first year that teams get lots of SOO players they struggle after origin as rep players are stale Winning the games we should win will also be important especially at home We can't drop numerous games against teams we should lap IE 2011 Titans ,Souths ,Parra

Allowing for a good run with all the above Top 3 is highly likely Can't see us winning the Minor Premiership though
If things go ugly especially with injuries and No 7 Anything could happen though I would think we should sneak into top 8

What do you ladies and gentleman think

I dont think any of those three are gauranteed an origin spot especially Farah and Lawrence (not saying they dont deserve it).

Also Woods is probably not a candidate in 2012 and Moltzen hmm dont know about that.

I think as you say however injuries need to be kind, on paper (like every other team) we look good but a few key injuries and we could be in trouble.

I think we have never been sostrong in the backs and I have big hopes for John Grant - I reckon Lote and Utai will feel plenty of pressure in 2012 which is a good thing!

Where we fit guys like Humble, Brown and Reddy into the mix also remains to be seen.

I'm pretty sure Farah won't make it. The DT will be too busy pumping up Ennis' tyres. There won't be any 'brilliant Farah' references around Origin time, i'll guarentee that.

Its all going to come down to how we cope with the new halfback. I'm hoping and assuming this will be Miller. It would be awesome if he could develop in the style of DCE, but he has a long way to go before getting there

On the injury front, it makes you wonder how far we could have gone in 2011 had we had a better run with injuries. Was shades of 06, theres no way we could have that bad of a run in 2012

On the rep front, I realy can't see enough players being selected that would affect our form. The only genuine chances i see are Galloway and Lawrence, with Ayshford and Woods possible smokies

My three key things to a successful season are:

1\. Luck with injuries. As happy said, if farah or benji r out for an extended period we will struggle to make the 8\. Injuries to what I call our "2nd tier" players (where Robbie and benji are the "top tier", eg Lawrence, Galloway, Blair, Ellis) will determine how high up in the 8 we will finish if Robbie and benji stay fit all year.

2\. Peaking when it counts. As the old saying goes, u don't win premierships in march. If u look at the storm last year, they were the best team all yr but looked flat in the finals. We need to make sure we have momentum heading into the finals and we need to continually be improving so as to peak in September and then on gf day.

3\. Handling the pressure of being expected to win. As we all know, tigers don't cope well with being favorites. We can't afford to be dropping games against weaker opposition as each two points is valuable. This is where complacency comes into it. We cant afford to expect to just turn up and we'll win. It's not as easy as that. We need to be focused for every team and give respect to all opponents. A game like the one against south last yr is not acceptable.

We won't have to worry about Farah being away for Origin. No way in the world they will pick him. Lawrence is a certainty and I'd say Galloway is very likely. We will miss both of them.

1\. Our ability to maintain intensity in defence for the full 80 minutes. Team harmony will determine if we can do this throughout everygame, but if we maintain an attitude in defence and work as a complete unit, our objective should be to keep teams to under 3 Tries per game

2\. The use of our Bench is just as important as a consistant starting 13\. Prop Rotation will be the main area we need to maintain guile, plus I feel the ability to rest Farah will see us become the complete package.

3\. A healthy 3/4 line for the majority of the season. We know Benji can do his thing, but to provide Benji with options wider of the ruck, on both sides of the ruck, will make him a far more dangerous attacking weapon and the rest should look after itself.

Not exactly an answer to the questions posed in this thread.

Halfback and fullback will both be interesting and critical to the Tigers success. I liked the way Moltzen finished the season at fullback, whether he remains there or moves to halfback will play a huge role in the Tigers side. Part of me wants to see guys like Reddy, Brown and even Grant given a go at fullback in 2012 and for this reason I'd be happy to see Moltzen moved to halfback. On the other side of the coin, I like the way Miller plays and feel he'll only get better, and he has a better passing and kicking game than Moltzen and doesn't mind getting in and defending.

Injuries - They'll play their part no doubt, but if the Tigers spine stays healthy, they'll go well.

And the rep season is the other aspect which I feel will impact the Tigers. Marshall and Blair are walk-up starters for NZ. Galloway, Lawrence and Farah should all be thereabouts for NSW and the likes of Ayshford, Woods, Fulton and possibly Moltzen are all contenders for city/country. Whether England play any tests will determine whether Ellis and Heighno are called to duty.

This! And don't forget that Bedsy is back as well! :unamused: There will be calls for him to come out of rep retirement if NSW lose the first game, mark my words!

My 3 keys to a successful season are:

Few injuries and disruptions to the team, as many have already mentioned.

Improved concentration for the full 80 minutes - we need to learn to put a team to the sword when we're in front instead of letting them back into the game. Also, more maturity from our playmakers (i.e. knowing when to take the safer option on the 5th tackle, during a tight match) 😛ray:

The 1,6,7,9 will need to be sorted out fairly early and once they have gelled, stick with them. I don't think it would bode real well for us if Sheens is still trying out different players at half and fullback mid way through the season (barring injuries, of course, but we won't be having any of those 😛ray🙂

Realistically, with our playing roster, anything lower than top 4 would be a failure, imo.

1: Injuries; quite frankly I was really suprised we managed to finish 4th based on what happened injury wise. I think if we are lucky in this department next year, that will make a huge difference.

2: Halfback closely follows injuries. Not only who Sheens eventually picks, but if things don't appear to be working, how long until he gives someone else a shot?

3: The forwards, with Blair coming in and hopefully having a fully fit Robbie and Gareth, the pigs need to really stamp their authority on other sides, it's a pretty darn good pack on paper, 5 internationals with those 3 plus Rhino and Sauce.

1) halfback - Critical. Whoever plays there must have a heap of support and faith from both players and coach.
2) injuries - We still made it after a horror run this year but had no petrol left in the tank due to the toll it took.
3) playmakers - Need to step up in every game and close games out. If we are up by 20 with 15 to go then I would expect the team to keep pushing hard and grind their opponents into the dirt. We have always been able to close a deficit, but closing a winning performance doesnt happen very often. NO MERCY!

In no particular order:
1.Maintaining a top 25 roster with no/limited injuries.
2.Winning the close games (so the run to the finals isn't such a worry)
3.Playing finals footy well…....shutting a game down when we're ahead near the end 😢 .
+ some luck along the way.

1\. a fully fit Robbie Farah

2\. a Halfback, preferably a tackler. Liam Fulton, even.

3\. Get the ball into Benji's hands as often as possible.

1\. goal kicking with an average of over 85 % for entire season.
2\. not taking opponent lightly.
3\. all players perform to their ability.

bar injury (i.e. bad luck), persistance, patience and production. I believe we are lacking patience. the coach should say something - the team should address it.
