If you could see two teams play against each other who would you pick
The name a few of my favourite match ups
1989 Qld SOO side v 2010 Qld SOO side Lewis v Lockyer ,Langer v Thurston, Backo v Civeniceva ,Slater v Belcher ,Meninga and Miles v Hodges and Inglis . The sort of football you dream of
1986 Kangaroos v 2011 Kangaroos Again some great match ups
1960's Saints v Early 80's Parramatta
2005 Tigers v 2011 Tigers
Have you got any match ups you would like to see crossing any era ??

I reckon the 2011 crop at full strength would SMASH the 2005 team. However I reckon the 2005 team would score some pretty wacky tries, scoreline would flatter the 2005 team somewhat.

Im gonna do one of my "famous" (Lol) prediction posts and attempt to predict this score.

**Wests Tigers 2011 - 47** (Tuqiri 2, Marshall 2, Lawrence, Ayshford, Ellis, Fulton, Farah Tries, Marshall 5/9 Goals, Farah Field goal)

**Wests Tigers 2005 - 34** (Richards 3, Hodgson 2, Fitzhenry Tries, Hodgson 5/6 Goals)

FTS - 2005 tigers out of the blocks early, and a bust up the middle by Prince, finds Marshall, LONG ball out to Richards on the left- Cover defense of Ayshford and Ryan come across, Richards starts running back across field - looking for a runner, finds Halatau, Halatau to Lafranchi, Lafranchi 2 man tackle… nope offload to Galea to Marshall keeps the play running..holds it up, holds it up, draws lawrence and Tuqiri, NO LOOK PASS TO FITZHENRY who goes in in the right Hand corner!!!!! Hodgson converts!!!! 6-0 after 8 minutes.

Half time score

2005 Tigers leading - 22-12
\
\
Half time coaching message -

2005 - KEEP IT GOING LADS, NOTHING TO LOSE!!
2011 - Tighten up the defense, use our big forwards, create a platform, complete your sets, we will overrun this mob.

Turning point -

60th minute - 2011 tigers holding on the a 28-26 lead - 2011 tigers role down the middle of the ruck, Heighington races up in the line in defense, and Heighington jinks through the gap left behind (yes, see what i did there :smiley🙂 finds Ellis looming up in support who carries Hodgson, Prince and Halatau over for a brute strength TRY!!! - Marshall converts and its now 34-26.

LTS:

Bomb by Lui to Daniel Fitzhenrys wing, who wants it.... Lawrence contests, bats the ball back to Tuqiri who carries a couple of the smaller forwards over the line to make it a 44-34 contest. Marshall converts from the sideline, 74 minutes gone.

* Farah wraps up the game with a field goal in the 79th minute. 2005 Farah realises that he can actually kick field goals, and is disbelieving when 2011 Farah tells him he finished his degree and now owns a restaurant.

* 2005 tigers team are scratching their heads at the Australian rep centre from Eaglevale in the 2011 team who they know nothing about...

* 2011 Marshall tells 2005 Marshall to get a real haircut, and watch the shoulder.
_"Which one?"_
"Both of them!"

MOM: Joint effort - Ellis for the 2011 team, Hodgson for the 2005 team.

Somebody make it happen. Somehow. :sign: :sign: :sign:

I believe that Tigers 05 squad would get flogged by the 2011 squad, I just think our current squad is alot better in every way, I would go with a score of 52-18 over the 05 squad

I reckon it would depend on what eras rules were used
If 2005 era rules pretty close game 2011 rules they (2005 side) would get belted

Cheaters vs Cheaters. I like it.

Most of the game would be 14 vs 14.

Seventeen player cited for high shots.

Field goal would be the first scoring play - with it paying out only $8.00 due to a large late plunge.

the last minute of the game would take 10 minutes to complete - SO MUCH CRAMP.

Brown Paper bags strewn all over the dressing rooms.

This thread is gold.

i would have to disagree i believe the 2005 tigers played a quality of football that was like no others, and although some will disagree the standard has gone backwards since then with the wrestling tactics employed these days. That team will forever be in my heart as the greatest (considerin i only waited 28 years for them to lift the trophy) although if they were to win it this year they maybe even 😛ray:

Blues 2000-2005 vs Maroons 2006-2011

NSW Team
1\. Minichiello
2\. Tahu (before he went off the rails)
3\. Girdler
4\. Gasnier (when he was good)
5\. King
6\. Fittler
7\. Johns
8\. O'Meley
9\. Buderus
10\. Kearns
11\. Fletcher
12\. Fitzgibbon
13\. Kennedy

14\. Wing
15\. Mason (again, when he was actually good)
16\. Stevens
17\. Menzies

QLD
1\. Slater
2\. Boyd
3\. Inglis
4\. Hodges
5\. Folau
6\. Lockyer
7\. Thurston
8\. Price
9\. Smith
10\. Civoniceva
11\. Thiaday
12\. Myles
13\. Johnson

14\. Cronk
15\. Hannant
16\. Scott
17\. Harrison

Qld probably have the Blues covered up front, the Blues have a better back row, the halves for both sides are incredible and the backlines have lots of points in them.

I would pay a lot of money to watch that game.
Personally I think QLD would win but it would be one hell of a spectacle.

That NSW Team would win hands down, but I'd replace Stevens with Ryles starting and O'Meley on the Bench… The NSW Bench would be the difference and as it always did in the early 00's, put on good points either side of Halftime.

:frowning:

I'd love to see a 4 team competition between the following:

1994 Canberra Raiders
2000 Brisbane Broncos
2007 Melbourne Storm
1982 Parramatta Eels

I reckon the 2000 Brisbane Broncos would win the Final

I think your wrong Watto if that side had to play under current rules they would be slowed down in attack (through the current ruck interpretations) and wouldn't look nearly as imposing in the forwards for that reason .
Thats the one thing you need to take into calculations rules interpretations What would of been a strength of one team in a certain era would be a weakness in another era in the same team

Well the 2007 Storm team is already out through salary cap breeches

Throw in the Dogs 2004, they played a grand final with Asotasi, Sonny and Thurston on the bench, and that was with Steve Price out. Sure the backline was a little weak, but the pack was ridiculous.

With us losing all the time to QLD, i often fantasize about picking my dream NSW team with all players in their prime to take on those grubs like Smith, Thurston and Slater. Its not a team full of NSW's best, but its players that id love to see

1.Jack
2.Grothe
3.Ettingshousen
4.McGregor
5.Wishart
6.Kenny
7.Johns
8.Lazarus
9.Elias
10.Harragon
11.Sironen
12.Pay
13.Pearce

14.Menzies
15.Roach
16.Cleal
17.Alexander

Bulldogs 04 vs Tigers 05?

Bulldogs a very good team then. Steve Price, Willie Tonga, Big Willie, J.T., Patten, S.B.W., El Masri, Utai, Asotasi and Andrew Ryan are notable players from what I can remember.

Tigers in 05 had a great halves pairing of Prince and Marshall, Hodgson, Richards, Robbie, Halatau, Payten and Heigno. Can't think of anyone else off the top of my head.

Dogs also had Shrek, Anasta, Sherwin and Maitua in 2004, insanely strong side on paper (benefiting from not having to release everyone after their cap rorts). There wouldn't be a lot of sides that'd beat that, but Canberra 1994, Brisbane 1998, Parra 1981-3, Dragons in the 60s and Storm 2007 would come close. The Roosters team the Dogs beat in that grand final was very strong too (4 grand finals in 5 seasons, probably should have won another comp in there).
