Why we will make the 8

When a team has to give a group of youngsters an opportunity they often come together with incredible hunger and enthusiasm. The right mix of selections could see us go great at the back end of the year.

Benji and Koro will come back this week.

Simona on the left will not be a world beater but he looked promising in previous NRL games where his one on one defence was strong. He is now 2 years older, 2 years stronger and 2 years wiser with an opportunity to cement his career, I expect our left side to be strong and fast.

The right side will worry me as i think Potter will go with Reddy and Utai. I dont blame him as we do need some experience, but i hope he takes a risk and plays Tagele outside Reddy.

Marshall should be playing 7 and leading the team along with Farah, allowing the strong running of Sirro on the edges and Brooks staying in lowers to continue his progress.

Bell is a loss to our pack. Ava needs to be a regular in our front row rotation.

I believe our side could be quite strong with players desperate to seize their opportunity, and that makes us dangerous, very dangerous.

Exciting and scary times at wests this year, fingers crossed our karma with injury works out in our favor, loving the hunger of the youngsters coming through

What the hell right? There is little to lose right now. We don't gain much by playing it safe from here on out, so lets go balls to the wall and rattle some cages!

The advantage is we might put some speed in our backline because we have very little right now

Love it realistically we are only 2 points out of the 8\. Anyone like a good bet we are paying $151 a quick lobster( $20) $3000 plus return ????. Let's keep the mood positive Mr Sheens will get sick of playing with his voodoo doll. :roll

We have I think the worst attack, and the second worst defence,so we are up against it.

If we make the 8 this year it would be nothing short of a miricle.I reckon we would already be about $7 to make the Top 8.

Personally I think we will lose our next 6\. Dogs, Sharks, Souths, Cows, lets be honest we would struggle to beat those sides at full strength let alone with half a team. We could very easily be 2-10 so effectively our season will be over at at half way. I don't think we will come last, however if injury situation stays like this there is a very real chance we will. I think we will finish about 14th just with the number of long term injuries, inexperience and Farah will play origin.

I don't even really care about the top 8\. More interest in the opportunity injury to average players have provided and the benefits it might have down the track for the club. Short term pain, long term gain.

Potter I think will try and pick the most experienced players he can

Reckon Meaney and Simona will come in to the side if Marshall and Koroibete are unavailable

Love the optimism KS , but their are too many factors weighing against I reckon

Full strength we would have done ok and probably won vs Broncos/Saints. We could beat Sharks/Bulldogs/Cowboys full strength too. Souths/Roosters will destroy us as usual though regardless unfortunately. Playing Cowboys at LO and they are horrible away from home, could have recovered from our injury epidemic by then.
I can see us getting some momentum around round 16\. But whether that is enough to get us to top 8 depends on how many ugly wins we can get over the next few weeks. It will have to be a very pulled together performance to get us over the line.
We only lose Farah/Woods for a week at worst vs Warriors so we should be alright.
Top 4 is pushing it veryyyy far though. Just have to take it one week at a time (excuse the cliche).

Yeah I think the top 8 is a forlorn hope this season. I expect we'll improve in the back end due to the return of key personnel and youngsters finding their feet. Realistically though it's more likely it will all be about 2014 for us and sooner than later unfortunately.

Top 8 wasn't a realistic possibility when we were at full strength this year. With 1/2 the squad out injured we will lose the majority of our games from now on. I think we will do extremely well to dodge the spoon. Lucky Parr a is in the comp….

I would not have agreed with this call 8 weeks ago, but given the rate at which the players are dropping like flies before a can of mortein is even opened…I agree now. Our season is done I'm afraid.

It's exactly for that reason, the Forlorn Hope, soldiers going into battle in the hope that they can overcome insurmountable odds to prove a point whatever the cost. I believe with Potter's faith he is showing in our Jrs he is growing a squad willing to face the gates of hell for him.

Don't get me wrong I am eager to see how the squad responds to the current adversities and will make it to a few more games this year yet…however we have to be realistic here as there are some great teams this year and even with our top side it was going to be a struggle. We all wanted this side to be rebuilt and now our hands are being forced with the elevation of guys that are probably a year off getting their chance in a perfect world. I am behind them and will be patient. I thought we were bloody dreadful against the Broncs especially in the first 40\. However we showed good ticker with experienced guys dropping like flies. I hope we do avoid the spoon and I hope our young guns don't burn out....interesting days ahead.

Thank you for the great laugh.

No way we will make the top 8\. As Michael Caton once said "tell them your dreaming"

We are Lucky not to be the wooden spooners this year. Thankfully we have Parramatta, Penrith, Warriors and Cronulla to complete for the wooden spoon.

There are 4 standout sides Souths, Easts, Melbourne and Manly.

In their distant shadows are Newcastle, Cowboys, Titans, Broncos and Raiders.

The rest of the teams including WT are making up the numbers.

Negatives this year: so many injuries to key players, too many hasbeens on our rooster and poor recruitment once again

Positives: Number of juniors given a chance at NRL, Harry Potter and his new game plan, juniors still coming through the ranks, resigning the legend, Farah. Woods and Buchanan.

Sorry but hard decisions need to be made this year or we will lose or burn out great junior talent.

Taps on the shoulder Lote, Utai, Reddy, Lawrence, Moltzen (I know it's hard but 2 knee reconstructions) and not to pay overs for Galloway (injury prone) or Marshall (great for marketing but needs to perform on field).

Review of support staff as we appear to have the most injuries year in year out. Storm never have this problems hence they are always competitive

Recruitment: One experience prop (Kennedy, Kasino, etc) one tough second rower (Plum, Eastwood would love them both) and one speedy centre (Josh Morris, etc).

Time in 2013 to blood as many juniors as salary cap allows us with eyes on 2014

Blood Luke Brooks, Tim Simona, Big T, Groat and any other talented juniors.

Time to focus on 2014.

lol….2013 was gone before it started and if we r-sign Benji again, we'll lose our young halves players too....

We have one of thenweakest rosters in the comp. simple fact!

surely ayshford, lawrence and molzten are on their last contracts...we need to buy quality players now....its a must....

2013 is now all about blooding in young players...

Sirro are you willing to put money on it?
I'm keen to have a wager that we will finish closer to last than 8th.
