WINNING UGLY STILL BRINGS TWO POINTS

Wests Tigers Captain Robbie Farah says he is happy for his side to keep ‘winning ugly’ as they continue their search for consistency.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s crucial match against the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland, Farah said the win over Newcastle in extra time on Monday had lifted the team’s spirits.
“We learnt a bit of that (winning ugly) during the middle stage of last year where we won a few close games and didn’t play to our ability,’’ Farah said.
“We were still picking up the two points which is important at this time of the year. Hopefully we can keep building. You don’t want to be playing your best footy to early. As long as we are winning and keeping ourselves up near the top of the ladder, we can then start to play some good footy later in the year and make a real run for it.
“We get the chance to jump above the Warriors with a win. It’s important for our season that we find that consistency. We have gone win, loss, win, loss for a while now so it would be nice to put back to back wins together.”
Sheens echoed Farah’s thoughts, saying he wasn’t too fussed as to how the team got the two points should they win.
“We are going to do a job and win the game. How we win it, you never know, if we have to win it in extra time with a field goal, so be it. We are just going to win the game,” Sheens said.
“If we win, we will leap frog the Warriors. If they win, they get a buffer on us so it just makes it that much harder. They won a few games in a row and we have had a win loss win loss scenario. It is going to be a fairly even game and hopefully a good game.
“From my point of view, I just want to win. I don’t care if it’s an ugly game, a good win, just as long as we win the game at this point of the season.”
Sheens confirmed full-back Wade McKinnon would play and that Beau Ryan will start for injured winger Lote Tuqiri. Centre Tim Moltzen will play his 50th game for Wests Tigers.
