Wooden Spoon 2025 ?

Newcastle. Lots of changes going on up there, Ponga misses about 1/3 of every season and the coach is just holding on. They seem to have the most variables.

Yes injuries will play a significant role.
If Ponga, Luai or Moses go down for extended periods, their sides will be in the mix.
I’ve got a feeling the Dolphins will get it after suffering the Bennett hangover.

Totally forget about the Knights. If Ponga goes down for any extended period, they are cactus.

Us, Dragons, Knights and Canberra.

Titans have a decent forward pack. Think they will be 10-14.

Though Warriors with no set halves are a smokie. They were to predictable last year and with Tohu retired, it effects there middle rotation.

3 have 3 spoons in a row and even though we have better players, the coaching staff hasn't shown much. Not sure why we arnt equal favourites for it until the team shows something.

That's a bs comment mate read the other team lists and tell me we can't beat some of these teams. Like Spartan said we're a club on the UP!
Agree we're on the up. Agree we can beat a bunch of other teams. I just also think they are just as capable of beating us.
On paper I think the Dragons are the worst side. But they did show a bit of resilience last year. Have them down the bottom but not convinced their a last place side.
The knights halves are an issue but they've got an elite fullback and centre pairing and a decent starting pack.
Raiders spine is the worst in the comp but their pack alone should keep them in enough games to win enough to stay off last place. They do tend to over achieve more often than not.
Warriors halves aren't much on paper but they did manage quite a few wins without Johnson last year. They've got a great pair of front rowers and pretty talented backline. Not a great side but shouldn't be last place.
Eels have excellent halves but a rookie fullback and poor hooker options. Their backline looks very good and starting forwards are solid enough but depth could be an issue.
I'd put us about even with the 5 above and think the spoon will come from one these 6. The other 11 sides I rate as better. Of course injuries and unsettled playing groups can derail any sides season but that is how I see it currently.

Mate compare our squad to the Brooks days with no one steering the ship or being intimidated by the pack. You can't help but get excited which is why GNR pisses me off lol.

Someone said the other day this is the best squad we've had since 2012. I haven't looked that closely to compare each year but I thought, yep it probably is. But there is a reason none of those previous years made finals, the squad wasn't good enough. This side can be much better than anything we've produced in over a decade and still not be good enough to be a finals team. Which is where I believe we currently sit. First time in a long time I think we are at least building towards something (apart from maybe briefly in 22 when I thought we had a couple decent signings on the way and cap space for more to come). Still enough questions around our side that means we shouldn't be considered out of the bottom tier yet.

It’s a pretty hard call atm, cos any side down the bottom has the potential to surprise. I’d almost be tempted to say Souths, but no Bennett coached side will get the spoon. They look very ordinary though.

Yea, I see it.
Neither Cameron has been at full capacity. Walker is clearly ready for the glue factory but the club will want to send him off right... The awful anzac jersey probably ruined Jack Wighton and souths paid $$$$$ to bring Wighton to the club. (sure not full freight, but a decent paycheck).

That said, There is no way Bennett would allow a Jersey targetted at Sailor moon fans.

Its seriously hard to pick.

Honestly it shows where the competition has gone. It's so far from the 80's days of "find a flexible day job".

The knights though are making themselves a candidate for the spoon. Loosing Saififi and Thompson makes their pack look a lot worse and it's a pick n flick choice. Daniel could have gone elsewhere and the knights kicked him. Plus the knights have had the spoon before...

Raiders halves are fine. Ricky wants a halfback that manages the team not a halfback that shows individual brillance. Fogarty can do exactly that, but if he gets injured then the team is in big trouble. I mean spine wise, they are in trouble as hooker=Danny Levi, Fogarty, Weeks and Fullback=Chevy Steward?? (WHO?). Their backline looks really light, Xavier Savage is their only player I recognise.

We should reach out to the raiders. Pinch a decent second rower for a Center/back. Offload Naden or anyone, Hudson Young/Hosking/Noah Martin ... Seriously this seems like an easy swap.
