WOODS: ‘I’M LEARNING HOW TO PLAY FOOTBALL’

AARON Woods has represented NSW and Australia, but in a ringing endorsement of Jason Taylor he says he’s learning to play football under the new Wests Tigers coach.

“He’s come into the squad and introduced a lot of new structures in attack and defence. He’s just simplified a lot of things and the way he gets his point across, I’m really impressed with him,” Woods tells RLW.

“So far we’ve gone all right in the trials and hopefully we can take that form into the season. We haven’t focused on one thing, we’ve done a lot of work on everything.

“I look forward to going in for training, I love it. They’re long days, but I love being in there because I’m learning how to play football and it’s just so exciting.”

Woods said he had experienced playing under coaches who sometimes erred by making things too complicated, but that the Tigers knew exactly what they were supposed to do and how to do it under Taylor’s direction.

“Oh, definitely, some guys can be under the pump and they’re trying to tell you a million things at once,” Woods says.

“But it’s been all smooth sailing with Jason. He structures the whole session. Everything we do on the field is specific and he tells you exactly why we’re doing it. It’s really good, I really enjoy it.

“He keeps it simple and the young guys at the club are like sponges, which really helps. It’s awesome.”

Easy to forget Woodsy is only 23

It is, a bit like Lawrence in that regard, he's still only 26 or 27 but has been around for years now.

The more I keep hearing about this simplified structure - and reasoning that Taylor has brought in, the more I like it. League isn't a complicated game so there's no need to make it one.

Thats good. The players are buying into it.

Hows about now instead of insinuating previous coaches were the reason we played ordinary the group as a whole shut up and win some game.

But if they were playing to a game plan that was ordinary, that is not their fault.

that is true to an extent, however previous coaches didnt instruct them to make ridiculous errors and put in gutless performances like they put in towards the end of last season. the players need to man up and shoulder the blame, the buck stops with them.

Sounds like players are bonding together and the players are loving it.
"Well done Taylor"

This was the most bitter/dis-appointing aspect of season 2014 to watch happen.

He is still a babe in the woods , is Woods

23 going on 29 , he is a freak , by the time he retires I think the only blokes we will place higher will be Lazarus, Webcke or Petero

More from the Woodsman….

Young gun trio key to Tigers: Woods

>
Representative prop Aaron Woods says the rookie trio of Luke Brooks, Mitchell Moses and James Tedesco are key to the Wests Tigers' NRL season.
>
The trio, considered three of the greatest young talents in rugby league, have had their move into the first grade interrupted by injury.
>
But they played their first top flight game together in Saturday's trial win over Cronulla and Wood has been impressed by what he has seen.
>
"They are a great bunch of blokes, they are all best mates and the way they rip into training and the way they go about things it is second to none, it is the best I have ever seen," Woods said.
>
"I reckon they are jumping out of their skin to play, they were that excited to play with each other last weekend."
>
Fullback Tedesco played just a third of last season due to a knee injury, while 2015 five-eighth Moses also missed a chunk of games due to a leg injury and suspension.
>
Halfback Brooks struggled with a hamstring strain at the end of 2014.
>
Woods is looking forward to seeing how they can develop as they play more football together.
>
"They are really ready to go," he said.
>
"They know each other in and out, they just have to stay with each other on the field, that's what we have to get for the Tigers first.
>
"If we can get them on the field for 90 per cent of the games, we will have a good year."

To see them all in 1st grade together this year will be awesome. Can't wait to see our young guns develop into seasoned professional footballs.
