Look I totally agree with players not touching refs and being made sacred in that sense ,but giving him one week for that isn’t good
The stupid thing in all this is Norrie who has performed an illegal act got not even a penalty against him
Maybe when teams start these illegal tactics the best way of penalty is to give players bans
Give Norrie a week off as well
Seems fair in this bush lawyers eyes

It’s honestly affecting the view upon Rugby League. Not good for our game at all, although I am against players touching Refs but maybe just an onfield penalty or a 10 in the bin?
Unfair that Norrie got away free and on the other end of the scale Thaiday is missing a whole week.

You can’t touch a referee! That rule is absolute in my eyes. There are 26 aggressive men on the field playing footy. There is no room for grey areas

I reckon blocker roach would reckon he got off lightly. Didn,t he get sent off and suspended for several weeks, 4 I think for patting a touch judge on the head in 88 or 89. And give norrie a week off, wake up you sooks . He did his job and got away with it . Like so many before , and so many yet to come. Take any advantage you can get on the footy field, as long as it is not violence. The only difference between norrie and thaiday is norrie knows who,s jumper you can pull and get away with it.

I think a fine would have done in the circumstances. The dumb thing is Bailey grabbed the ref on the same weekend put is free to play.

I agree that Thaiday got a week, players can’t be allowed to touch referees. Thaiday would have been better off belting Norrie instead and getting a week for that.

Bailey didn’t have the carry over points that Thaiday had.
I agree with tigergirlz, though. It’s a pretty simple rule. Don’t touch the ref and we needn’t have this discussion.

100% agree. Don’t touch the ref, no matter what you are trying to demonstrate. If they had let Thaiday off for that where does it end? Inu could of picked the ref up and dumped him on his head to demonstrate that it was an accident on Inglis (would love to see someone pummell Brent Suttor into the turf though, it would be well deserved).

Should of been a fine, not a week off.

Very harsh for mine. Wasnt aggressive, he wasnt being rude or condescending, he was merely demonstrating. In my book that wasnt touching the ref in the way the rule was primarily designed.
-
yeh feel sorry for him. he didn’t do anything wrong imo.

But where do you draw the line in regards to what is acceptable touching of the ref and what isn’t acceptable? We don’t need any more grey areas in the game and it also sets a pretty bad example to the juniors coming up that you can touch the ref as long as it is considered “acceptable” contact.
The NRL finally got one right IMO.Thaiday is a goose anyhow, maybe he should of had two of his teammates demonstrate to the ref so that he can be his usual late “3rd man in.”

The ref should think himself lucky that Thaiday is captain. If Lockyer was still captain Sam may well have run in third man and hit him from behind…
