Anasta said Tigers should stick with Miller
By Ben ChenowethThe decision to dump Wests Tigers halfback Jacob Miller after four rounds may not sit well with his replacement.
Speaking to the Advertiser before round one, Braith Anasta said whoever was handed the 7 jersey deserved time to establish themselves as Benji Marshall’s halves partner.
‘‘You can’t be putting young blokes in and out of the team especially at halfback,’’ he said.
‘‘Whoever they do pick they have to stick solid with them and show them that they have the belief they can be the Tigers number seven all year.
‘‘Jacob Miller won the Toyota Cup with the 20s and has played a few first grade games so if they give him the opportunity they just have to stick with him.
‘‘Give him that belief that he is there for that number seven jersey and that will give him confidence.’’
Since the departure of Scott Prince at the end of 2006, the Tigers have struggled to find a long term replacement.
Anasta made it clear he wasn’t the answer to the halves dilemma and his preferred position was in the back row.
‘‘I’m at the stage of my career where I want to play lock, it’s my preferred position,’’ the 31-year-old said.
‘‘We’ve got players like Marshall and Farah who can take care of the halves and the creativity and I just want to be able to do my job, come in and out of the game if they need me.’’
Former Gold Coast Titan Bodene Thompson will make his debut for the Tigers in place of Anasta in the back row.

Anasta been picked at 7 , has been playing 11 but says he wants to play 13 :brick:

It sounds more like Anasta isn’t confident in his own ability to play in the halfs and maybe fears the backlash coming his way .
-
I wouldnt read to much into it.
Its a fluff piece.
He was brought here to play in the halves, its def his best position….especially considering his lack of impact in the backrow.

sounds more like a commentator than a player.
Is he in his own world? -

Agreed, sounds most like he was influenced to talk about Miller being in the 7 and why he wasn’t.

Does it matter? Anasta is not the coach and isn’t the one held accountable at the end of the year. Nobody here was present when Potter and Miller had the demotion conversation. So nobody knows how it was taken or what was said. It’s done, move on.

Exactly right Potter is the one having to answer to the board at the end of the year not Anasta or the players.

Anasta happy at No.7
Braith Anasta is playing a straight bat, but he’s privately delighted at being switched to halfback by Tigers coach Mick Potter this week. Anasta wasn’t happy at being used as a battering ram in the opening four rounds, hitting the ball up out wide and getting smashed. He wasn’t allowed to do any ball playing or kicking but following the team’s poor start to the season, has been handed the seven jersey in place of Jacob Miller.Sportal

With backrowers like Anasta and Blair in the side maybe one of them should have been dropped instead of Miller.
-
what do u expect him to say, dump the kid.he looking after his own arse.

I don’t believe Anasta has ‘replaced’ Miller. Miller has been performing like some of you have suggested, and he’s done a good job considering the circumstances. However what we need right now in relation to our poor season start is some experience in the halves, someone to take control of the game.
Miller is still very inexperienced and raw for a halfback, and I back him 100% but to be in the position we are in, it’s hard to take in and I believe Potter feels the exact same.
With time comes experience and knowledge, might be smart to keep Miller in so he keeps learning, but also might do him some good in the reserves as well. -

To add to that he has been pretty poor at being used as a battering ram.
