      Hey All,
I read over and over again (for about 18 months now) Sironen to lock, Sironen to lock….
-Can someone please “Finally” tell me where the hell this revelation comes from??

      Here are the facts:
      -Sironen Plays 5/8
-He plays primarily in the U20’s comp. (3rd Grade)
-He is bigger than 95% of the kids he plays against (But yet, he still plays 5/8)

How on Gods green Earth does any of that translate into making him a lock in the NRL???

I’m a big fan of Siro, Always have been…
But I can’t fathom how anyone can call for him to play a position “in 1st grade mind you” that he isn’t familiar with… When he doesn’t even play said position in 3rd Grade!! (And as previously mentioned, Is bigger than most kids in the comp)

5/8 is as close a position to Fullback as any, But there is no call for him to play there?

If someone can explain the math behind this lunacy, I’d be really interested to hear it!!

Now, I understand he is a Big kid and probably will get bigger… And could possiblly (By design) end up in the Back Row…
But these early calls to put him there, When he doesn’t even play there in a far inferior competition baffles the crap outa me…

(I can hear the chants now) Ball playing Lock, Ball Playing Lock… UPDATE: Ball playing Locks haven’t been handy in the game for about 10yrs now… And as such are a myth!! Ask me if I would rather a ball playing lock or a Big, Angry, Hole Running, Back Rower… Aka Sam Burgess.

      • I’ll tell you where you can put your ball playing Lock!!

      FURTHERMORE…
-If you really want a ball playing lock? We have one… His name is Liam Fulton (Been around for a while)

I agree he needs to stay at 5/8 and be like another John Sutton when he grows up

No, lock or back row he needs to play there. We have Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks that must be our future halves. That is why he should play lock. He is alo a big fella and it will be easy for him to lose fitness and not be a 80 minute player.

agree with part of what you said… he plays at 5/8. .yet i wanna see him in the second row (not at lock)… this comes from my observation of how he went in 1st grade.

imo… he is too slow to be in the halves (as well as fullback obvly)… people make their own opinion from what they see

also imo… he needs to play in the backrow in the NYC/state cup as well before coming back to first grade

Because everyone remembers what a great backrower Paul Sironen was, so when we found out he had a son who looks to be a big lad we figured that’d sort out our forward pack right out. Everyone just assumes this 5/8th business is just a phase he’s going through as he matures and Curtis will eventually take his place in the second row, just like his dad in the 80’s.

By the same logic we should be signing Mitchell Pearce to play Lock any day now.

i would love to see him stay in a consistant position and remain injury free.

He is still young and forwards can burn out career wise faster than backs can.

Did sirro snr play in the Halves as a young kid, cosimo?

Also, i think that he could fit in the Halves after Benji. Don’t have as big an opinion of Mitch Moses as brooks, saw a game of theirs a while back and it seemed like brooks made Moses seem amazing. Might have changed by now and he could be the next thurston but i like sirro at 5/8 in the future. Otherwise, second row is a good option for him.

He looked OK as a 5/8 to me, but we already have a decent 5/8. He’s probably too slow for the outside backs, so back row seems to be his future.

If we had a monster pack I’d be happy so see him getting a spell at lock or second row, but he might just add to our woes at the moment. I’m keener to see what Bodene can produce this week.

The kid isnt going to get any quicker, and still has growing to do. He wont be the first nor the last to be a ballplayer trapped in a forwards body.

I think as long as he’s quick enough and mobile enough, keep him at 6. If he does lose a little bit of pace from putting on a couple of extra kilos (I won’t be surprised at his age if he starts next season 3-4kg heavier again), then you’ve got the makings of a pretty good lock/backrower.

The only explanation I can offer Batboy is that 10 years of Sheens’ shenanigans, when it came to choosing players out their positions, has rubbed off on many members of the forum. I guess it’s become par for the course for many of us to think that players can play multiple positions, since that’s all we’ve been fed for a decade! 😆

A lock can play a similar role to 5-8th. Take one look at Bird who at one time was credited at “the next Wally Lewis” in Origin.

                                  Take a breath.
