Too early to rate Potter and given the horror injury list we probably shouldn’t…… Although he seems to be battling to motivate the team when, given all the chances the newbies are getting he probably shouldn’t have to.
Anyway, I saw a thread or two about Potter and the alternatives.
Personally I would have commenced a new dynasty this year, sacked half the squad, there’s enough in the Forum as to who they should be, and promoted Toddy to grow with a totally new look team and aim for a good 2014 and a big 2015.
He did so well last year, couldn’t have been better, as did the team.
Total clean out needed, players, coach and the Board. It’ll never happen I know, too many with their own interests and no stand out leader.
Happened at South and Easts, now look at them. They each had a leader, regardless of what people think of them, Pollitis and Crowe. We have nothing.
It’s encouraging the start he has made. He always seemed to have a good football brain. Payten needs 3-4 years of learning his trade. He is doing a very good job with the 20’s. He has very good players which helps alot. What impresses me is that his teams play with good shape and real energy most the time. Maybe moving up to a State Cup role, or assistants role in First grade and in a few years when his close mates have retired we might have a option there. Let him learn his trade properly first. No one could succeed right now the state we are in.
I am unsure what style of coach he is. He seems to more of a laid back one just going on his general demeanour when playing. However maybe he is different to that.
Actually, his name is spelt Payten.
Anyway, I am a huge fan of Todd. As a player, and definitely as a coach. It is obvious that he is an excellent man-manager of a squad of young men.
But he is a long way off being ready to coach an NRL side! I do believe that he will eventually be capable but it would be throwing him to the wolves right now. He needs some senior experience first, at least a couple of years with State Cup, then possibly as assistant to an NRL coach.
Given his results so far it wouldn’t surprise if he rises through the ranks quickly and I do hope we see him coaching WT for a long time, but if he follows a solid coaching career path he may well need to leave and assist coach somewhere else.
