NSW Cup Preview: Cut down on errors

Wests Tigers NSW Cup Coach Paul Fletcher is confident his side can bounce back from two straight losses this weekend providing they cut down their error rate.

With five wins from 10 rounds this season, Wests Tigers sit in fifth place on the ladder but should be even higher following close losses to Newcastle and Newtown in the past fortnight – matches they should have won.

Wests Tigers led 26-12 against premiers Newtown Jets after 50 minutes last weekend before conceding three tries to be beaten 30-26.

“The most frustrating part for me in the loss to Newtown was the fact we went away from doing what we are good at. It is becoming a bit of a trait in our losses this year,’’ Fletcher said.

“We get in positions to win games. Whether it is a lack of respect for the opposition, I’m not sure.

“Our attention to detail drops away, we turn the ball over, take a few wrong options, and then the opposition gets momentum and it is hard to stop.’’

Fletcher said his side needs to play to its true ability, starting with a home match against the lowly placed Wyong Roos at Campbelltown Sports Stadium this Saturday. Kick-off is 3pm.

“This week is about is improving. We really have to cut our error rate down. If we do this and play to our potential and the high level we set ourselves, the result will take care of itself,’’ he added.

Eddie Paea will start at five-eighth for Wests Tigers this Saturday after playing for the Western Suburbs Magpies in the Ron Massey Cup the past few weeks.
