Simple question
If their was any one (or more) clubs as a Balmain or Wests supporter would you have hated to seen amalgamate with ??
As a Wests supporter Bulldogs and Manly It was hard even at the start when we had some of the ex Manly players
If we had amalgamated with either of these I would of become a Cowboys supporter I reckon
Does anyone else have a particular club you would of been unhappy with and how far your unhappiness would of driven you to ??
Think we got it right with our combination ,despite what is going on at the moment

As much as I’d love to relocate the Tigers to Langlands Park in Brisbane, I would’ve been pretty angry if we merged with the Broncos.

But would you have still supported them ??
That’s the follow up question ??

Well it took 2 years when they formed the JV for me to follow the Tigers again, so if I can support them with Wests, I suppose I would’ve long term.

I wonder what Rick Wayde would say?

I agree with you Happy couldn’t handle a merge with Manly for sure and Bulldogs a close second, in fact had it not been Balmain then I’m not sure who I would follow if anyone. I had time for the early Storm teams particularly when they beat Saints in the GF but the salary cap mess changed that.
-
we have enough disgruntled fans already, another merger would probably reduce membership even further,
I would be very disappointed if we are again forced to merge with anyone, and consequently I would not
support such a joint venture :sign: -
I would have supported them, no matter what team they joined with, I wasn’t really into NRL before 2000, cause I supported wests and they weren’t to great but got right into NRL when we merged and have been addicted since, so I didn’t hate many teams before 2000

Had the merger been with anyone other than Balmain, I would have given it away because it wouldn’t have worked. Balmain was the Magpies closest fit in terms of culture and values so I was stoked when the vote was passed. Plus Dad was ex Balmain and switched to Wests when I came along as we lived in Lidcombe to get me interested in the footy at Lidcombe Oval. So for the two clubs to join up and win a premiership together in 2005 should bind us together forever.
-
Bulldogs - makes me shudder to think the merger could’ve nearly been with them. I think I would’ve found it difficult to embrace that one!
On the other side, I wouldn’t have minded Wests merging with either Penrith or Parramatta also, but I was very happy that it was with Balmain in the end.
-
Easts and Pawwa. To think that Balmain nearly threw their lot in with that scumbag Fitzgerald makes me ill. I’d have given the game away if it were either of them.
I was happy that Balmain and Wests chose each other. Two foundation clubs, long history, proud tradition. Hopefully we can form our own now as WT.

Manly and Norths for me, Dogs get an honourable mention too, but I would not have tolerated the first 2 one bit.

I’m surprised some spanner hasn’t come in and suggested the other JV partner yet.
