im sure this thread will start either in the off season and even end of 2014
but according to you, who will turn out to be the best buy for next year?
i’ve included gavet as he hasn’t played 1st grade for us this year YET.
i’ll get the ball rolling- i think paterson will make a huge impact with us. he is exactly what we’ve been calling for. not to mention, i think his workrate will make a huge impact with us as well.
what do you guys think?

Have to agree, you sort of know what your getting with patterson. Was great when he was at the Knights. Gavet and Tapau hopefully have breakout years, but still haven’t seen much of them.

I hate to say it but i’m not bothered by that. I’m not nor have i ever been sold on Koriobete.
He’s damn fast is about the only good thing i can say about him as a footballer.
I think a year at least in state cup to work on his defense and complete lack of ability to read opponents attack is what’s needed and Richards is good cover for this.

Not strong? Damn good tackle he made on Sandow last year.

Ok his ability to hit a smaller man and full speed and knock him over has been verified.
If my memory serves me correctly Sandow got straight up and play swing in their favour of that play and Koro stayed down injured.
Fact remains when the attack goes to his wing i pray. He just cant read an oncoming attack
Generally his reaction is to arm grab (if he can figure out which direction they are going) let them, past him and to then try and run them down from behind. which is fine if he has enough room to do so but….
I get that he’s the type of winger who could score 20 tries in a season, but he’s also the type that let’s 20 in.
And to be honest i think they figured him out pretty quick after the parra game anyway because his attack has not been that great since either.
You have to be able to create opportunity not just wait for you center to get you the ball in the clear.
-
Just hope another club doesn’t swoop him because he is a talent is all I’m saying and Richards is well passed his best. He is still solid.

Hope taupau is a surprise package for us. Think with some regular nrl time potter can get the best out him

Austin.
With a full off-season battling against the others for the vacant 5/8 position I think he will make it his own.
He has loads of promise and with a (hopefully) consistent halves partner in Brooks we could see his best footy.

um Richards has been one of, if not the best player in the english league for the past few years. leading points scorer etc. a different level but still a standout player over there will be of great value to us.
and if lawrence moves out fo the centres then none of our juniors have to miss out in the backs
1 teddy
2 koro
3 nofo
4simona
5richards
6austin/anasta
7 brookswith lawrence, mr t, lulia, and possibly moltzen/lote as well as moses if required. not too bad really. young yes, but highly talented.
richards will also help with high balls and talking in defence. very experienced and still fast, and strong.

Out of the buys on this list I can only see 1 possibly 2 starters in Pat Richards/Blake Austin…the rest will be warming NSW Cup

You actually think Lawrence wont be in the starting line up next year.
That’s hysterical.
Koro wont be coming back into the starting lineup at the expense of any of the other guys either.

well lawrence has been awful for 2 seasons now, and hasn’t been close to ebing fully fit. he should have to earn his place on merit like every other player in the team. no-one could possibly argue with that.
if he’s fully fit and shows sign of getting back to his old form then he would be in our starting lineup. if he has lost his pace he could move to the forwards, a la luke lewis. thats not impossible.
he may get injured once again as unfortunately seems to happen to him, rendering any discussion redundant in any case…

Richards is a guaranteed starter, Patterson will push Sirro for a start, and I don’t mind either way it goes, and Austin should (unfortunately) push Braith for 5/8. Austin/Brooks would be a better combination I think, but Anasta may be more beneficial for Brooks’ development. Haven’t seen enough of Taupau to make a decent call, but he’ll get a go at some point in the year. So for mine; 1 definite start, 2 potential starts, 1 definite bench, and the rest are NSW cup.
On topic, Austin is the best buy IMO.
