If you wanna get all tin foil hat over tanking claims, look no further than Manlys effort against Penrith today.

The ‘‘loss’’ conveniently gives them an extra day to prepare for the semis, facing the Roosters on saturday…. a win wouldve seen them play Souths on Friday

I hear SG and Todd Greenberg are both in hiding from the integrity commision.

If the Sharks beat the Raiders, they play the Cowboys next week. If they lose they play the Knights!

Look for a lot of dropped ball and one-out running from the Sharks. Oh, and Fifita pulls out with a leg strain.

Thats one way of looking at it. Another is maybe teams like Manly today and the Storm last night weren’t willing to fully throw themselves into a somewhat meaningless game

Yes, the finals system does throw up a few doubts on final round games. Tonight the Sharks play Canberra. If the Sharks win tonight they play Newcastle next week. If they lose they play Cowboys. Newcastle looked sharp today and beat Sharks last time they met. On the other hand Cowboys did not appear as impressive as Newcastle.

I am sure that may have been the case but the TAB was quite willing to take bets on the match.

True, but if the match is a washout, Cronulla goes through as the highest ranked team.

isn’t it the other way round? If Sharks beat raiders they run 5th and play 8th - the Cowboys, who have won their last 6 in a row. If the Sharks lose they play Newcastle who flogged Parra (big deal.) I reckon they are much better off playing Newcastle.

Whatever… the Sharks are not running dead, they lead 36-18 with two minutes to go.

                      AND Bryce scored a try!!!

Manly would rather play Easts like us they also found out as we did with the penalty count against souths. who ever plays them they will be hobbled by the crowd and the refs.

Easts comfortably beat Manly twice this year. Souths got home against Manly with the rub of the green. If I were a Manly player I’d rather face Souths next week, although that’s just me. I tend to agree with the belief they just didn’t fully invest themselves in the game, knowing they had a tough game next week with a potential 5 day turn around.

They were whinging through the week about the short turnaround

The finals system has become a bit of a farce, with two codes wanting one venue, its just another example of the extreme unevenness of the NRL competition

I’m just glad they scrapped the McIntyre system. What a farce that is. If it were still in place. next week we’d be faced with
Souths v Cowboys and Roosters v Newcastle.
