The latest Wests Tigers injury news, brought to you by Velbexx-17.
Wests Tigers’ NYC finals campaign has suffered a serious blow coming out of the golden point victory over Brisbane with front rowers Nathan Brown and Andy Fiagatusa ruled out for the season.
Nathan Brown suffered a ruptured pectoral muscle and faces up to 6 months on the sideline. He will have surgery this week.
Andy Fiagatusa will have further scans after suffering a suspected fracture to his scapula (shoulder blade). Fiagatusa bravely played on during the win over Brisbane, making a crucial tackle to keep the game alive in the dying stages of normal time.
Leading into the NRL off-season, two key youngsters will have surgery to repair existing injuries.
Tim Simona will have an arthroscopic shoulder reconstruction. He’ll miss 6 months.
Curtis Sironen will have minor groin surgery. The second rower is likely to be ready for training at the beginning of the pre-season.
Sucks that both Simona and Brown will miss the entire pre-season. Better to get surgery now though. Both could have really used an entire off season to work on strength and conditioning.
Great effort by big Fiagatusa as well. Made a match winning tackle in the last minute while playing injured. Great commitment for a prop to chase through and defend his line when the rest of the team didn’t.
NYC will have it tough without both starting props though. Graham is ok, but not in the same class as those two. I now fear Canberra could put us to the sword. We’ll need some huge efforts just to stay in the NYC with Moses, Fia and Brown all out.

We haven’t even reached 2014 and we have injuries already
And then we lost 3 players during pre season training in 2013
When will the football gods smile favourably on us ??

Yeh shocking news. We just dont get a break.
A key will be how Lawrence comes back. A real champion of this club shame his lost his pace and seems a shadow of hid former self. -
Damn. Who will be our centres come round 1? Lulia and Richards?
Will Lawrence be 100% fit by then? -

Will Lawrence be 100% fit by then?Nofo could push into the centres to cover Simona (he’s played a fair bit there) and bring in Koro on the wing. Lawrence at centre and Richards on the other wing. That’s another option. I’m really not sold on Lulia and I strongly believe Lawrence can get back to his best.

Well, if they have surgeries now they won’t miss too much……but damn

By rights the Raiders will utterly muller our NYC squad missing two props
-
I would put Richards in centre to cover simona, don’t trust nofo’s defence at centre at an NRL level. Let him just perfect and hone his winger talents, he’s a good finisher.
1. Teddy
2. Nofo
3. Richards
4. Simona/Lulia/Lawrence
5. KoroibeteAnd Big T as wing back up is how I see it for 2014.
