This was reported on the Tele Website until early yesterday morning when they pulled it down, Found it elsewhere
- Thought I’d Jam it up, Was a bit surprised it hadn’t made its way here already.
Rugby league does soap opera style drama almost better than it does rugby league.
The latest chapter continues in the NSW Supreme Court where former Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens is suing the club which punted him in October 2012 after team tanked and came 10th that season.
The only problem was Sheens was signed until the end of the 2014 season on a $450,000 contract.
And he wants his money.
The matter is listed in front of a registrar tomorrow (Monday) at 9am.
Sheens is coaching the Kangaroos in the rugby league World Cup in the UK and represented by lawyer Anthony McMinn, court records said.
Law & Order’s colleague Phil Rothfield reported in August that the Wests Tigers board decided in early July to stop paying Sheens and he has not been paid for July.
But Sheens believes he is entitled to the rest of his money which is believed to worth in the vicinity of $600,000 to $1 million.
Sheens had previously said he wasn’t enjoying the standoff and wasn’t keen to go to court.
But it appears we have reached that point.
Mr McMinn did not return Law & Order’s calls.

Why is it that every other club can sack coaches and players for underperforming but apparently we can’t?
-
If he’s owed money he’s owed money.

If he is Contracted to Wests Tigers… And he is (Or was) getting paid by Wests Tigers,
Why has he not set foot on the premises in over 12 Months?
Can’t have your cake and eat it too Timmy… If you want your money, You gotta earn it!! -

because we sign our staff on multi million dollar contracts.

Can’t have your cake and eat it too Timmy… If you want your money, You gotta earn it!!Not sure that is correct. We altered the terms of his contract. Question will be whether is contract contemplated him taking on a non-head coach role. However, even if he didnt his failure to accept the alternative would go to whether he has mitigated his loss. My view is the club has the better legal position. I was surprised they continued playing him as long as they did.

I’m not privy to the terms of his contract….
But my employees don’t get to tell me what they do and don’t feel like doing on any given day.
As long as they are getting paid by the company, They will do what I feel (As manager) is best for the company.I couldn’t see how any contract would stipulate, If you don’t feel like doing what we ask… Then don’t come to work and we’ll keep paying you regardless.
Then again, Our handling of contracts has been somewhat questionable!!
The club certainly has access to sound legal/financial advise… I’d be very surprised they’d put themselves in this position if they didn’t have the upper hand!!
Mayer has come across as “to the point” and quite knowledgeable… It’s no surprise that our payments to Sheen stopped around the same time he took the reigns!!
Fingers crossed I guess!!

I used to feel the same way batboy.
If the club tells him to clean up the grounds after each game- would he do it?
I feel sheens has a stronger case IMO

I’m not sure its as simple as not coming to work & he shouldn’t get paid… The outcome of the meeting when Tim was advised he will be replaced is probably the huge factor here.
Coaches get replaced all the time, but on most of those occasions they would have there contracts either paid out or both parties reached a settlement agreement.
If this wasn’t agreed upon by Tim and the WT’s, they are in dispute… If the club sent him home and told him his services are no longer required, he is holding the aces. If he decided on his own to not turn up to work, well then the club is holding the aces. [this last scenario I doubt very much]
The fact this has dragged out so long would hint that Tim is holding the Aces and the Club is simply trying to express the matter to settlement by not paying him. They are most likely trying to get a final figure from his lawyers to put this to bed. If Tim is actually taking the matter to court, he is probably not interested in negotiating anything less than the club agreed upon. Unless the club can find a beach of contract, they will be screwed!
Companies have the right to restructure and Sheens would’ve had no say in this if the club chose this option… One thing is for certain, the club should never of appointed a new Head Coach if this was Tim’s contracted title.

The Tigers are doing this on purpose
They want an early resolution and have stopped paying Sheenius to force it to mediation
The Tigers or Sheens won’t want this this to go to court so expect to see this settled out of court once Sheens obligations at the World Cup are over
Mayer had mentioned this in an interview he gave earlier this year and there was a thread all about it

This is a joke. WT need to cop their decision and pay up. The clubs reputation is on the line.
I’m angry about how sheens was punted .I’m angry how the club caved to player power in 2012, and i’m angry that the fans never got to say goodbye and thank you to Sheens, (and vice versa).

It is a simple WT tactic to stall, try and force mediation or worst case scenario courts give very generous payment plan terms to corporations is judgements depending on expected cash flow, assets etc.
Either way it puts an end to it.

There is no way he should get the full payout, and expect to work somewhere else. If he wants his full contract despite not having worked for the last 2 years of it, he should be forced to sit out and do nothing.
However if he wants to work in rugby league (outside of the Roos job), he should accept a revised amount.
Its funny how Tim never had an issue telling a player they weren’t part of the clubs future plans mid contract……

Yeah and then we would have to pay their heavily back ended contract out until hell froze over
Sheens is entitled to the full amount , but if he goes to court over it will look bad to any potential future clubs who might be interested in signing him
And if we go to court we will look bad to any future coaches who might be interested in coming our way (Hopefully we don’t need anew coach for a few seasons yet )
This will be settled out of court
