Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks has been voted by his peers as the 2014 Rookie of the Year at the Rugby League Players Association Awards on Tuesday night.

The Holy Cross junior, who played 21 games in his first full season of first-grade, won the award ahead of Paul Carter (Gold Coast Titans) and Pauli Pauli (Parramatta Eels).

Despite making his first-grade debut in Round 25, 2013 against the St. George-Illawarra Dragons, Brooks is still eligible to receive the Rookie of the Year Award in 2014 as he played less than three first-grade games in his debut season of 2013.

Brooks was nominated for the NYC Holden Cup Player of the Year by the RLPA in 2013, and was also named at halfback in the 2013 NYC Holden Cup Team of the Year.

    ========

Well done Brooksy and well done Marty on your awards… 😃

  • Hurrah!

  • Yes hurrah indeed. Good to have some positives for our club in such a negative year. Surely in contention for the Dally M Rookie player of the year yeah?

  • If Sione Mata’utia had have played as many games as Brooks he’d have won. Brooks won this year in a bradbury imo.

  • congrats brooksy and marty!

  • imo Paul Carter had a better year than Luke Brooks

  • Brooks the obvious option.

Was 3rd in the comp in try assists at the halfway point of the season. Was a great effort!

No-one else really came close. Not a lot to choose from really. Maybe Johnson from Souths may be in with a shot too.

  • Personally I reckon that’s not what Brooks needed

He was pretty good , but still had heaps to learn and heaps to improve upon

Next year will be a steep learning curve , clubs have seen him and know now his strengths and weaknesses

  • Congrats to Brooks on a well deserved award.

  • Well done boys. Hopefully we’ll see Brooks improve a lot more in 2015.

He seems to have pretty high expectations of himself.
I’d be surprised if it went to his head and tempered his efforts to improve.

  • Matt Moylan surely must have been ineligible.

  • @underdog:

Matt Moylan surely must have been ineligible.

Is it just me , but Moylan wasn’t rated in the same league as Brooks 16 months ago and has blown past him

I understand Brooks has had injury issue for the last 6 weeks , but you have to question where we are going wrong with our junior development

I honestly can’t say I’ve seen any noticeable improvement with Brooks from Round 1 to Round 26

And you could put Simona , Sironen , Nofoaluma and Sue in the same boat

Am I being too harsh in my assessments ??
