Crushing news hits Brett Stewart, Manly Sea Eagles
From: The Daily Telegraph March 17, 2010 11:29AM

MANLY-WARRINGAH have lost superstar fullback Brett Stewart for five months after scans revealed his knee injury was far worse than first feared.

Stewart is to undergo surgery next week on his left knee and will be sidelined for the bulk of the NRL season.

He received the shattering news late on Tuesday night and coach Des Hasler revealed the extent of the injury at club training today.

The injury is identical to the one he sustained on his right knee last season which sidelined him from round five until round 25.

Stewart suffered the injury when making a try-saving tackle on Wests Tigers winger Lote Tuqiri late in Monday night’s match at the Sydney Football Stadium.

"It is a shattering blow to Brett personally and to us as a club but we have to be positive and he is being positive despite his recent run of bad luck,’’ said Hasler.

"We proved we can win matches without him last season and we can do it again.

"It’s not the end of the world by any means but it would be ridiculous not to suggest he won’t be missed. He is a champion player.’’

Stewart has told team-mates he will be back on the field with them inside five months.

"He has set himself round 20 and it is good he is setting himself goals,’’ said Sea Eagles chief executive Graham Lowe.

"The Manly club knows how much of a fighter Brett is and he will be given the best of medical and rehabilitation support to get himself back where he belongs as soon as possible.

"He has been through it before and knows what to expect.’’

Awful luck……digit was extremely brave the way he coralled big Lote.

But let this be a warning to other peeps trying to tackle the big feller.

                Dont do it…let him score.

                Thank you.

Agree with all the posts above.

Not that I like seeing players injured at all, but if it was going to happen then against us was good timing (I can hold a grudge).

Lol at the advise there Simonthetiger - opposition you have been warned.

can’t wait for the return match in round 20…I hope the boys show these grubs a thing or two…by rd20 Cayless should be match hard and hopefully will lead the chorus to smash the likes of Rose, Kite and Watmough into the ground!..Nice comeback match for Stewart too…just in time to take Tuquiri over the sideline in a cover tackle!..haha.

Wasn’t it round one that we played them when he ripped us apart when he shouldn’t of been playing at all given the drama off field going on??

Bad news regarding his injury, but he’s obviously got bigger issues to deal with at the moment.
