Wests Tigers are pleased to announce the signings of Kevin Naiqama for the 2015 season and Chance Peni for 2015 and 2016.

Both players have signed second-tier NRL contracts with the Club and will significantly bolster the depth of outside backs in the Wests Tigers squad.

Naiqama joins the Club following a one-year stint with the Penrith Panthers, where he scored seven tries in eight NRL appearances and was a key member of the NSW Cup premiership-winning side.

The 25-year-old talented outside back made his NRL debut for the Newcastle Knights in 2010, where he played 15 first grade games over three seasons.

Naiqama has also represented Fiji on numerous occasions; including the mid-season Test Match against Samoa this year and also the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

Peni played for the Newcastle Knights Holden Cup side this year, with the side finishing the regular season as minor premiers before their elimination in the second week of the finals series.

Primarily a centre, Peni was recently selected in the Junior Kiwis train-on squad for the upcoming match against the Junior Kangaroos.

The 20-year-old played his junior football with Wests Newcastle and is an exciting addition to the playing roster for next season.

Both players will join the Wests Tigers full time squad when pre-season training commences early November.

  • Whoops posted at the same time, can a mod please delete mine.

Good signings, does anyone know if Peni is any good?

    Well Kevin is confirmed…

Anyone know about Chance his stats weight and height wise are impressive at least…

Note also both signed to 2nd tier contracts…

  • That Peni kid must be O.K to make the Train on Squad

  • Iv’e watched a few of the Newcastle Knights u20s games this year and i can assure you this Chance Peni is a future NRL star if his u20s career is anything to go by. He will crack first grade at some stage but don’t think it will be in 2015. Maybe a replacement for Pat Richards when he retires at the end of this season.

Very very exciting times in Tiger Town !

  • Chance Peni as a person….
    Bit of a douche.

    Never watched him play.
I think he’s the type that thinks he’s bigger than the team.

    Not impressed.
    See what happens though.

  • Saw Peni play against the Dragons in round 26 (cheers Best and Less) and the kid was pretty decent. Has a strong running game and not too bad defensively, well for under 20’s anyway. Still has a long way to go before cracking first grade, but when/if he does, he will be like Chris Lawrence before his injuries.

  • Oh & Chance Peni is cousins wiith Maina Rudolf (Sp?)
Could have something to do with why we scooped him up.
    Not sure tho

  • Rudolf is now @ Manly tho.

  • Thought it must have been posted somewhere! ta.

Will be very interested to see how Chance develops.

  • Both very good depth signings. Will leave Lulia for dead.

Going by our centre depth before these signings I would say at least one of the two will be playing first grade sometime in 2015. How many years has Lulia still left on his contract?

  • Watched the NYC game on Fathers Day with the Father in Law Newcastle v Saints

    He didn’t stand out

  • Second tier contracts. No wonder they weren’t in a hurry to announce it.

  • Pointless trivia - Apparently Chance played rep Rugby Union in Perth throughout juniors
