LOTE Tuqiri’s Origin comeback has gained momentum, with the giant winger invited to a secret Maroons dinner in Sydney alongside Queensland coach Mal Meninga on Wednesday night.
Tuqiri was one of about 20 NSW-based Cane Toads who joined Meninga and assistant coach Michael Hagan for a meal at Bondi Icebergs.
Meninga has travelled to Sydney for the past few years to meet with eligible Maroons south of the Tweed, but this week’s session was the largest on record. Also in attendance was Panthers coach Matt Elliott and St George Illawarra assistant Adrian Lam, as well as former Origin winger Mark Coyne.
“Lote was there, as were other players who the Queenslanders reckon could play a part in this year’s series,” our spy at Icebergs said.
"It looked like a really good night.
“They were cordoned-off and by the looks of it, drank a record amount of soft drink and water.”
Other players who attended were: Nate Myles and Ben Jones (Roosters); Michael Crocker, Ben Ross, Ben Lowe, Dave Taylor and Chris Sandow (Rabbitohs); Travis Burns, Petero Civoniceva, Matthew Bell and Maurice Blair (Penrith); Matt Ballin (Manly); Darius Boyd and Neville Costigan (St George Illawarra) and David Stagg and Ben Hannant (Bulldogs).

Sounds like there’s a few players there who will not be playing for Queensland.
-
well, looks like we can cross tuqiri out for 3 matches.
-
How do you make that assumption? There are 8-10 players there that are NO hope what-so-ever of playing Origin EVER.
Sounds more like a beat-up to me.

Secret Maroons dinner? Not much of a secret. They might not be going to Iceburgs in the future aye.
