Wests Tigers NRL Head Coach Jason Taylor has spoken about his excitement of starting the year this weekend when the Club takes on the Gold Coast Titans.

As well as being his first game in charge of the Club’s NRL side, Taylor said that he was excited to see the team in action and delivering what they’ve been working on throughout pre-season — highlighting also the importance of starting the season on a positive note.

“It’s really important that we start the season strongly,” said Taylor.

"We’ve worked really hard to be in a place to do that.

“We’ve had some solid trial form and a good pre-season overall, but we know we need to take things up a level this week against the Gold Coast,” he said.

"But having said, we’re in a really good place in regards to knowing what we want to do and how we want to play. Everyone understands their part in our system, which is good.

“I’m confident that if we can stick to what we’re worked on throughout pre-season and deliver for the full 80 minutes, we’ll definitely walk away with a result.”

So say we all JT SO SAY WE ALL…

Titans, and all their dramas, could possibly be the worst opponents we could have first up this year

I agree, as we have seen in the past, when teams have off field dramas, they can come out and dominate on field. I hope this is not the case on sat night…
Only time will tell.

Also it can be a bit of false gauge as to where we really are at….imo.

IMO the 6 week period during Origin games, will be the best indication of how wests-tigers are going.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions about teams who are facing adversity. Look at the teams with off field dramas last year: the Tigers, Sharks and Knights. All finished at the bottom or near the bottom of the ladder. Every now and again they can pull something out of the clacker, but it doesn’t happen as often as people would have you believe.

I have pretty much heard all the talk about how great an offseason we have had and everyone is looking forward to a great year ahead…when we have some wins and good stats on the board, then I will start getting excited…until then I will give my utmost support to the team and JTand wish them all the best …

Woo-hoo… We’re all excited for round one. Good luck to the boys on Saturday and fingers crossed we get a win and no major injuries.

His last comment is concerning

I’m hoping he means a positive result LOL and I don’t mean players with Hep A either

I don’t care about the supposed impact of “off field dramas” on the Titans players - I assume they are zero. What I do care about is that we’re playing a side which already had one of the worst rosters in the comp and is now minus - arguably - three of its best players. That’s why we ought to roll them - not because of some vague idea of “distractions” or “turmoil” affecting the blokes who do play.

Incidentally, when I saw the title of this thread my first thought was “why is Dave Taylor looking forward to round one?” I need a bit more time to get used to the new coach, obviously.
