What does he do at training? He has been here six years now and in almost every season our defence has been mediocre.

We don’t move up in defence. Look at the Roosters third try where Ayshford basically tackles Graham over the line. If the players moved up instead of sliding that play would have been shut down? What kind of defence SLIDES on their line?

Thanks for relaying my post from LeagueUnlimited, saved me creating thread here.

It’s obvious that Royce doesn’t have to answer to Tim, he’s drinking partner…otherwise what the hell is he still doing at the club?

          He arranges the witches hats
He makes sure the flying fox is well fed and has enough energy for the training session
He tells the lads about the glory days of the 1980s and stopping at Skelsie’s nightclub on the way back to Penrith after a 57-2 loss at Henson park
He tells them all how he had a VB with everyone in Penrith in 1991

He’s a valuable member of the backroom staff. We are lucky to have him and we should heed the words of his boss who once remarked `Royce could outcoach them all’ when comparing Royce to other candidates for various NRL and ESL coaching roles. Royce would even struggle to outcoach his boss’ post superleague hit rate and would struggle to outcoach Langmack, Tugger Coleman, Laurie Frier, Terry Lamb and Steve Ghosn

Ummm…you guys need to keep up……

Sheens took more control of the defense at the begining of last year…

Royce was swithed to attack and witches hats…

I know, which makes me want to sack the defensive coach more than ever!

Royce gets on extremely well with the players and , as is well known, has been great mates with Sheensy for decades.

That’s basically why he’s got the job. If we are being realistic here, he’s not exactly a ‘defensive guru’.

I was as dissapointed about the loss as anyone, but you’ve gotta have some context. We came off a war on monday night, whereas the Roosters played a rabble a day earlier. It was a poor effort, but if people think that is what it’ll be like for the year, you’re being a little hasty….apart from the people on here who want to see that.

Guys as I said in another thread, it is a bit naive to think the coaching group doesnt work as a team on all aspects of our game. Therefore I am not sure that blaming individuals is the right way to go, even if criticism is deserved (which at this early stage of the season I am not certain about).

Fair enough point, but anyway, my criticism of our sliding defence on the line still stands.
