okay, id like peoples opinion on this idea i had in the game against manly:
the tigers got a penalty on the right wing about 10m out from the manly try line. farah kicks it out, taps and gives it to a big forward who smashes into the line, and so the set plays out…
now. my idea was this:
get benji (or farah who would be less obvious) to kick the ball out and take the tap…
as soon as he taps the ball, the forward rushes forward as per usual, but instead of passing it to him he does a little chip and chase over the rushing defence into the in goal and hopefully regathers the ball in heaps of space and puts it down for the try, or someone could be running through to gather it. viola! try time tigers!! :righton:
every time this situation occurs, every defender near the play the ball rushes the line creating space right behind them and the fullback is usually closer to the posts. correct me if im wrong with the fb positioning…
something you couldnt do often, but having done it once successfully, a little seed of doubt will be sown in future.
could catch them out…could be a great way to waste a golden try opportunity!

Utter stupidity
Hey you asked -
no problem at all! i did ask.
maybe it would work in under 10s?!
-
utter stupidity……
First you expect the Wests Tigers to find touch from a penalty…
Sorry Robbie…
-
how about they just take the tap instead of kicking it out.
-
Couldn’t be any worse an idea than some of the plays we do
-
The only forward I am confident could pull it off would be Payten…
EDIT: I now realise you mean Robbie or Bunji will be doing the chip n chase.
-
I don’t think it is stupidity, it probably wouldn’t come off percentage wise and it may mean handing the ball straight back on a first tackle but it would keep the defence in two minds should a similar set of circumstances happen again during the game…a little uncertainty when we have the attacking prowess of Benji and Robbie is no bad thing.
-
it also depends where the fullback is
-
how about they just take the tap instead of kicking it out.
i also don’t get why they kick it out in those situations rather than taking the tap
-
Its an all or nothing play that the Tigers would do IMO. And for the record, i did it when i was 13 and it worked.
-
kicking out for touch - Good Idea
all the rest……utter stupidity on the 1st tackle!
:brick: -
hey everyone,
thanks very much for your input, and also thanks for not simply writing me off.in reply to comments:
1. i really dont understand why they kick it out and dont gain or lose (if too close for plays) ground either?!
2. definitely not suggesting this be tried often, but unpredictability is part and parcel with the tiges and as someone said, it could screw with the minds of the defenders and possibly put them in two minds.
3. taking such a risk on the first tackle in that position is why it would be so unexpected/stupid. maybe try it when they are 50 points ahead with 3 minutes to go?!
4. king sirro thats awesome!!
5. i think if someone had ever suggested that instead of kicking for touch after a penalty (wherever), just tap it and run to try to catch the defence off guard the responses would be the same. for the record, i was a fan of this being used once, every other time i think they have lost ground they would have made with a kick.
6. im completely cool with people thinking its stupid, hence the title. but in league i think unusual plays (i thought it was original until king sirros comment!) can work if used sparingly and the tiges have the team to do it. -
In fairness, i only did it cos it was the end of the game, so its different to your suggestion, therefore, it probably is original.

Fonz are you posting under your alter ego of Turnstyle again ??
