Halatau

I was very vocal against his signing and at the start of this year was adamant he can’t be in the top 17.

Well very happy to be proven wrong. He has been consistently good all year and that’s where my criticism was with Dene. In the past he would look good but get very lazy defensively and let us down. I watch him closely because of this and you can clearly see mentally he has addressed this issue. He is never lazy in defence anymore and scrambles as good as anyone. Love it.

We talk about having lack of experience well I reckon this guy could go around another year. Yep, can’t believe it but I want us to re-sign him for another year. We need his versatility, experience and guidance.

I would be happy to resign him for next year if he plays the way he did last night.

We need experience in the forwards and I think second row is his spot.

Have him coming off the bench to stiffen the defence where needed.

I thought he was good last year and earned respect. This year he’s been asked to do a lot of toiling and has done it adequately. He’s done well to fill the gap left by Blair and Thompson. With Sironen and Lawrence it’s an adequate backrow we have. Would still like a big rangy damaging backrower to go with them but can’t have it all.

He would be close to Teddy in my player of the year award,he seems to have taken on the role left vacant when Liam Fulton retired

Did anyone notice the wide attacking play to a running forward was going to Dene rather than Lovett or Sirro? He seemed to trouble them with that play also, which is unusual as you expect that play to go to a wide running mobile second rower and not a smaller forward.

Halatau has always been a superb hole runner and with that kiwi power doesn’t need a lot of size.

He has been so good hasn’t he. Just consistent high quality play. I think he has to have a spot in the team somewhere.

Dene knows his footy and plugs plenty of gaps for us and no doubt has made us a better side at times. His better games outnumber the odd poor one too.

Only one more year though.

Had a solid game last night. Hard runner and everywhere in defence. Did had me yelling at the telly when he pushed the player over on the 4th tackle for one of the dumbest penalties youd ever see from a 200+ game vet. Also the missed tackle from him for the 3rd Melbourne try was a testing time. Other then that a solid game.

He’s a must next year. Losing Galloway and Richards; Farah, Woods, Lawrence and Halatau will be the only 100+ career games players. His experience is vital. He has the brain fade and poor performance in him. But he also has professionalism that the young blokes must learn to be successes.

the miss on bromwich was poor but otherwise he’s been pretty good this year. youd imagine he’s a good guy to have around the club too. hope he stays for at least another year.
