Warriors after Matt Duffie - could he be an option?

The New Zealand Warriors are chasing former Kiwis winger Matt Duffie for next season.

The 25-year-old, who was born in Auckland and attended school in Christchurch, then Saint Kentigern College in Auckland, has spent all his injury-riddled NRL career with the Melbourne Storm.

He has played every game for the Storm since round 20 this year and scored four tries in those seven appearances.

Duffie fits the bill with the club’s recruitment policy of bringing back quality New Zealand players from Australian clubs.

If they were to land him, he would join Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Issac Luke and Ligi Sao as other New Zealanders returning home.

Could he be an option for us? Perfect replacement for Patty on the wing and wouldn’t cost much at all, Duffie & Nofa flanks, Simona & Naiqama centres would be astute.

Didn’t we just sign the St George-Illawarra version of him? But from a depth perspective we could use help everywhere. Our reserves were terrible this year.

great under the highball but don’t think he has the power to get our sets off to a good start

wonder who our winger next year will be…

pass but good luck to him

The rehab department would earn their money with Duffie on the books.

@Tigertigertiger:

Injury prone …no thanks

He hasn’t missed a game since coming back from basically 2 years out injured, pretty much like Teddy, Duffie is a good player, he would be a huge upgrade on our wing.

Moltzen out, Duffie in….
Keepin’ em employed.

How does a ‘Warriors After Matt Duffie’ titled article end up with us discussing him coming here? 😆 Ah the desperation!

Melbourne Storm wing Matt Duffie has signed a two-year deal to switch codes and join Super Rugby franchise the Blues.

The Storm and Blues confirmed the news on Saturday, with new Blues coach Tana Umaga saying he was excited about the Auckland-born former schoolboy rugby standout’s arrival.

LATEST: NRL Player Movements

“Matt is a fantastic athlete, and was a highly promising young rugby player,” said Umaga.

"He has developed into an excellent professional rugby league player at fullback and wing and that experience in those positions fits ideally to the role of an outside back in rugby.

“We are very excited to have him join the Blues, not just for his playing ability but as someone who has played top level professional sport for a highly successful organisation. He is also a leader who will add real direction to our young backs.”

Duffie is the sort of player who will go there and star and end up playing 50 tests for the Wallabies imo.
