The Australian Rugby League Commission has today named a Prime Minister’s XIII train-on squad featuring young stars Mitchell Moses, James Roberts and Reagan Campbell-Gillard ahead of the match against Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby on Saturday, September 26.

The squad, which will be coached by Penrith Panthers’ Ivan Cleary, has been selected from the teams which will not take part in the Finals Series.

More players will be added to the squad from the teams eliminated in Week One of the Finals Series ahead of the naming of a final team on September 15.

Cleary, who will coach the Prime Minister’s XIII for the first time, said he was excited to work with a squad featuring such talent.

"I’m very grateful for the opportunity, and I’m particularly looking forward to working with some of the younger players who have bright futures.

“This will be an important match for the players who are ultimately selected. This may be a stepping stone for some ahead of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.”

Looks like Woods has been dropped from Australia, good.

wide ranging abilities inside and outside of that squad….

Some fringe first graders (albeit up and coming) included such as Mosely, Mamo and T Trbojevic and journeymen like N Friend and B Fallon included. Along with a heap of other average first graders with potential upside (like our guys names)

With some regular rep players including our own Robbie & Beau Scott excluded.

Regular strong performers like Fensom, T Simms and T Mannah get overlooked, whilst run of the mill players J Stockwell and Paul Vaughn are included.

Very strange.

Did Sheens look after this PMXIII squad while Aus coach?

What he means is if Woods is named in the PM’s XIII He’s not going to be named for Australia.

The most glaring omission on a list like this is the likes of Blake Austin.

I thought PM’s team was players who are not playing in finals?

It’s the Australian reserve grade mate haha

In the past a number of players knocked out early play PM’s and Tests,

This year I dont think there are any tests for Australia, I stand to be corrected though.

I think the kiwis are taking 23 players to the UK, and that is the only end of year footy.

Would appear that Cleary and his selectors agree with WT choice of which player they gave the number six jumper to this year.

Lol Woods Dropped…there are NO Kangaroos tests at the end of this season…next test is the Anzac test next year plenty of time to fight his way back…

Woods not dropped, there is no Aus team named, he’s just made himself available. Looking at the side he’ll probably captain it. Him and/or DCE.

Austin suffered a pretty bad shoulder injury the other week

That would have to be the first time in a very long time that there hasn’t been an Australian test played in October/November.
